CHILDREN AND PARENTS TOGETHER (Bay Shore) volunteers work with children in pre-school education and parent-child interaction program for children of parents who have emotional problems. Weekdays, flexible hours. College-age, Adults. RECESS volunteers work with children coping with mental illness to improve their social and other skills.(Bay Shore, Bellport, Blue Point, Riverhead). Saturdays. COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP (Huntington) volunteers sort, price, display and sell quality, low cost donated clothing and household items. Weekdays & Sat., flexible hours. High school, College-age, Adults. ESL(English as a Second Language)TUTORING. Volunteers need to coach adult immigrants in learning English. Two hours per week, mornings and evenings. College age. Adults. (Bay Shore). OMBUDSERVICE volunteers trained as advocates for elderly residents of nursing and adult homes throughout Suffolk County. Six day training session provided. Days, flexible hours. Request minimum commitment of 1 year. Adults. STEPPING STONES (Huntington)volunteers assist emotionally disabled adults in an integrated program of recreational, social, health, counseling and vocational activities. Weekdays 9:30am-2:30pm. College-age, Adults. At FAMILY CENTER in Huntington Station, Bay Shore, Bellport, East Yaphank volunteers work with school children in after-school programs for reading, homework help, and tutoring, etc. Tutors/mentors needed to work with children individually. Days, flexible hours. College-age, Adults. PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS in Bay Shore, Bellport, Huntington Station, Laurel and Mineola volunteers work with children from low-income families preparing them for success in school through daily classes. Weekdays 9:30am-11:30pm and 1pm-3:30pm. College-age, Adults. SENIOR NET (Huntington) volunteers over 50 help to teach individuals 50+ years how to use computers. Volunteers are also needed to serve on various committees. Weekdays 9am-5pm. Adult
