Offers 6 Courthouses in the 5 western towns of Suffolk County (Babylon, Brookhaven, Huntington, Islip & Smithtown). District Court in the Cohalan Court Complex, Central Islip oversees; Criminal Court; trial jurisdiction over misdemeanors, violations and infractions; preliminary jurisdiction over felonies; traffic tickets charging a crime; Domestic Violence, Drug Court, Mental Health Court, Veterans Court, Human and Trafficking Court. District Court in the outlying courthouses in Hauppauge, Huntington Station, Lindenhurst, Patchogue, and Ronkonkoma oversee: Civil Court - jurisdiction limited to damages up to $15,000; Small Claims Court - simplified procedure, damages up to $5,000; Landlord & Tenant Court - housing proceedings and evictions and Town Ordinance offenses and Community Court - offenses prosecuted by the Towns.
