SUFFOLK COUNTY VETERANS SERVICE AGENCY
Assists veterans and their dependents in processing claims for benefits, discharge, separation papers and tax exemption. Offers information and counseling relating to veteran's rights under the law. Areas include pensions, compensation, survivors' benefits, housing, taxes, records and social services. Also offers assistance, with appeals, obtaining medals, filing for DD-214 and referrals to other county, state, and federal agencies. Notary services and in-home visits to assist house bound with claims for benefits (including nursing homes). Community services such as Memorial services, dedications, ceremonies, etc. Provides assistance to County Veteran Service organizations. Information and assistance provided for indigent burials and burial honor guards. Outreach to homeless veterans.
