A consumer driven personal assistance program that allows people with disabilities to gain more control over their personal assistance services. CDPAP enables self directing consumers to advertise, recruit, interview, hire, supervise, train and dismiss their own personal assistant(s). Self directing persons assess their own needs, determine how and by whom these needs should be met, and monitor the quality of services received. Individuals independently make all decisions and manage services directly. If an individual is unable to do so, they may use a certain family member or friend to manage needed services. Provides information and referral, benefits advocacy advisement, Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), peer and personal counseling, housing information and referral, adaptive equipment loan, transportation, and general advocacy to the disabled population in Nassau County. Also provides a comprehensive resource directory of goods and services available in Nassau County for people with disabilities. Provides limited transportation service (wheelchair accessible van), ADA consultants, and technical assistance to business organizations and individuals.
