LEGAL SERVICES OF LONG ISLAND (LSLI)
Provides legal assistance in civil (non-criminal) matters to low income persons who meet income guidelines. Concentrates on cases of public assistance, food stamps, Medicaid, Social Security, homelessness, evictions, foreclosures, poor housing conditions and disability issues. The main office is in Hempstead (516-292-8100.) Additional offices are in Islandia (631-232-2400) and Riverhead (631-369-1112.) There are volunteer opportunities for pro-bono attorneys and advocates.
