DIRECT FILE | UNITED STATES INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE

New York State and the IRS have developed a new program that allows eligible New Yorkers to e-file their federal and state personal income tax returns for free. The Direct File pilot program is open to New Yorkers reporting certain types of income and claiming certain credits and adjustments. The Direct File program is easy to use and can help eligible taxpayers file a 2023 federal tax return—for free—in English or Spanish, add tax information with step-by-step guidance, and connect with real-time online support from IRS customer service representatives. Direct File may be accessed from a smartphone, laptop, tablet, or desktop computer.
