The 24-hour Helpline provides supportive intervention, information and referrals to self-help (Gamblers Anonymous and Gam-Anon) and professional treatment/education programs nearest the caller. These treatment programs offer supports and related services for problem gamblers and their families, and provide assistance or referrals for persons suffering from alcohol and substance abuse problems. Client fees may be covered by Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance companies. If a client does not have insurance coverage, feels are determined on a sliding fee scale based upon ability to pay.Local professional treatment and GA/Gam-Anon programs comprise the primary referrals furnished to Helpline callers. However, there remain many communities within New York State without gambling specific support services. In these areas, the Council has identified County mental health programs, licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health. The Council has identified Tompkins County Mental Health Services (Clinic: 607-274-6200; 24-Hour Hotline: 607-272-1616). TCMHS has agreed to provide services to persons requesting assistance on an as needed basis. This mental health care provider does not offer specific programs for problem gamblers. This program provides support services for persons in need of mental health care services (e.g. depression, compuslive disorders, addictions). In instances when callers are referred to County mental health providers, professional support will be furnished by the Council on a case-by-case basis upon request.
