Kendra’s Law provides a statutory framework for court ordered Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT). AOT was established to ensure that individuals with mental health concerns who have a history of non-adherence with treatment, and history of hospitalizations or violence, participate in community-based services appropriate to their needs. The law establishes a procedure for obtaining a court order for these individuals to receive and accept outpatient treatment.
