AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM | HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY CONTINUING EDUCATION

Offers a 160-hour program composed of a sequence of noncredit courses that leads to a clear level of competence in American Sign Language. The certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete all required courses plus eight (8) workshops of the student’s choice. The courses and workshops in this program are continually updated and rotated in the summer, spring and fall. Affiliated instructors are members of both the hearing and deaf communities. Those who complete the certificate program may choose to pursue further studies in an interpreter program. Required courses include: ASL I, ASL II, ASL III, ASL IV, ASL V, ASL VI and ASL VII. Additional course offerings include: ASL Semantics; ASL Fingerspelling; ASL Conversational; ASL Practice Sessions; Medical ASL: For Medical, Emergency, and Counseling Situations; ASL Vocabulary; ASL Storytelling; ASL Classifiers; ASL Linguistics 1; ASL Idioms; ASL Linguistics 2; Deaf History; ASL Games; ASL Numbers; Conceptual Accuracy: Interpreting English to ASL Interpretation and Overcoming Nerves When Signing: Mindfulness and ASL Careers. Courses may be taken on an individual basis without participating in the certificate program. Call for more information.
