Description

Conducts investigations of lead poisoning in children. Because lead poisoning is serious, New York State requires Health Care Providers to test all children for blood lead levels at ages 1 and 2, and up to age 6 based on risk assessment. Contact the Suffolk County Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program to find out about home safety tools and recalls on items and toys, especially if your home was built before 1978. Offers community outreach and education about lead poisoning and prevention to health providers and various homes and organizations. Call for all services offered.

Operates and coordinates community health centers. Provides diagnostic and therapeutic medical care in the areas of prenatal, pediatric, and adult medicine. Manages the following Bureau and programs: Bureau of Chest Diseases; Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (Lead screening); Immunization Action Program (IAP); Maternal Infant Community; Health Collaborative (MICHC); Patient Advocate Unit (PAU); WIC Program (Women, Infants & Children Nutrition) and Suffolk County Correctional Facility’s Medical/Dental Units. The Division is also affiliated with nine family health centers located throughout Suffolk County.
