Perishable and non-perishable food is purchased/donated from large and small commercial food donors including retail locations, distributors, and wholesalers, as well as from food drives done by community groups, schools, and businesses. This food is then distributed to over 450 community-based member agencies throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. These agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, and other nonprofit organizations with feeding programs.

Its goal is to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island through efficient food collection and distribution; enhance hunger awareness and nutrition education programs; job training; and direct services targeted at children, senior citizens and others at risk.
