Offers a series of free lectures by research faculty on various aspects of Astronomy, most commonly on their own research or some topic of public interest. The lectures are held in Lecture Room 001 of the Earth and Space Sciences Building on Fridays at 7:30pm. Usually four lectures a semester are scheduled. Astronomy Open Night provides attendance certification for New York State teachers wishing to apply for in-service credit. Among these programs you can accumulate hours of lecture credit each year to apply toward your school district's program. Policies on in-service credit are set by school boards and you should check with your administration concerning the details of the local program. Try to be early for these lectures, increasing popularity of this series has seen the lecture hall full on occasion. Some disability-related accommodations are available. Call the Department at the number above before 4pm to inform them of your requirements. Due to COVID-19, the Open Nights will again be virtual this semester. For further information and lectures dates and times contact the Department of Physics and Astronomy at (631)632-8100.
