What "Code Blue" means It is an emergency plan for extremely cold weather.It is activated when temperatures, including wind chill, are expected to drop below32 for at least two consecutive hours.The plan ensures that those without shelter have a place to go to stay warm. How to get help If you are in need of shelter, go to one of the listed locations.You can get assistance with transportation from local law enforcement if needed.If the office is closed, you can call 911 to be connected with the Department of Social Services. Additional services The Broome County Department of Social Services (DSS) can provide additional support for those who use the shelters.This can include help with clothing, food, and connecting with other resources.Case managers can also be available to help with longer-term goals like finding permanent housing.
