Description
Advocates for community resources for the homeless of Nassau and Suffolk Counties including the development of emergency, transitional and permanent low cost housing. Provides opportunities for agencies to present current issues facing Long Island's homeless and educates professionals about available services. Coordinates applications to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for homeless funding and conducts an annual Homeless Count. Provides technical assistance to local organizations whose services do not meet the criteria for HUD funding, but are essential for meeting the needs of the homeless.

LONG ISLAND COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS
Oversees the funding process for permanent housing programs that are for homeless households on Long Island. The Coalition is the central access point for housing on Long Island for persons that are homeless for the greatest lengths of time and/or have one or more disabling condition. The Coalition can assess all persons presenting as homeless in the region and refer to the best resource available. The Coalition has a homeless hotline to report street homeless persons in need of housing - Dial 631-464-4314 ext. 118 to reach the Street Outreach Team for after-hours assistance.
