Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) | New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) (Admin Site)

Provides federal funding to local department of social services that is used to supplement annual energy costs. The funding can also be used to help households in a heat or heating related emergency. Funds can be used to pay for electricity, propane, natural gas, oil, kerosene, coal and any other heating fuel. Emergency HEAP grants may also be available to eligible households with a shut-off notice or for those running out of fuel such as propane, wood, oil, kerosene or coal. Furnace repair/replacement grants are also available to repair or replace the primary heating source.

Emergency Assistance - ECDSS

Assists eligible individuals in a crisis by issuing one-time, non-recurring payments to meet emergency situations. The unit may assist with security agreements to landlords, extermination fees, moving or storage expenses, and utility arrears payments to avoid shut-offs or to restore service. Financial assistance is made in the form of a loan for utility shut-off, evictions, moving/storage expenses, property repair, rental assistance, mortgage assistance, and foreclosure. A security agreement is provided to landlords instead of a security deposit. SOLID GROUND | CARING FOR THE HUNGRY AND HOMELESS OF PEEKSKILL (CHHOP)

Program provides individuals and families small grants to obtain housing stability. These small grants are to assists in rental arrears caused by inability to pay first month's rent and security deposits. They also provide small grants to clients whose utilities are in the process of being disconnected.

GROUNDWATER PROTECTION | NASSAU COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

Involved in many programs to prevent subsurface discharges that have the potential to threaten our groundwater resources. They include the Petroleum Bulk Storage program, Toxic and Hazardous Materials Storage Program, Sewer Connection Program and closure of On-Site Sanitary Systems, monitoring inactive hazardous waste sites and the Underground Injection Control program (UIC). Nassau County has initiated a septic system replacement program for residents and small businesses -- Septic Environmental Program to Improve Cleanliness (SEPTIC). The SEPTIC program will provide grant funding to eligible recipients to replace a conventional or failing septic system with an innovative and alternative onsite wastewater treatment system. Nassau County is offering grants up to $20,000 for homeowners or small businesses to install state-of-the-art nitrogen reducing septic systems. RENT AND UTILITY PAYMENT ASSISTANCE | CATHOLIC CHARITIES COMMUNITY SERVICES OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY
