Does not offer cash assistance. Also perform budget analysis in order to educate individuals and prevent homelessness as well as assist families and/or individuals in their transition to permanent housing. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY EDUCATION PROGRAM (PREP) DREAM PROJECT (ROCKLAND COUNTY) | LOWER HUDSON VALLEY PERINATAL NETWORK - WEST HAVERSTRAW

PREP is a teen pregnancy prevention program for middle school-aged youth that uses evidence-based program models to educate youth on healthy decision-making patterns, abstinence and contraception, as well as adult preparatory subjects, which includes healthy relationships, financial literacy, effective parent-child communication, and college and career planning. PREP has an Advisory Board that is dedicated to helping through cross-collaborative partnerships (related to positive youth development work), program oversight, sustainability, and expansion opportunities for youth in Haverstraw and Spring Valley.

HOUSING AND HOMELESS PREVENTION | NASSAU COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES

Offers shelter placements and assistance with emergency housing needs through the Department of Social Services (DSS) under the auspices of the Nassau County Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD). Eligible individuals and families can, on an emergency, temporary basis be assisted with shelter and other items of need in order to meet their emergency. The goal is to provide families and individuals with the tools they need to secure a permanent, stable housing, and move as quickly as possible to a stable self-sufficient role in the community. In addition DSS offers assistance to a family or individual who is threatened with eviction or foreclosure, assistance may be available to save the current housing. These emergency programs are: Emergency Assistance to Adults; Emergency Assistance to Families and Emergency Safety Net Assistance. These programs were designed to meet one-time non-recurrent emergency situations. These benefits do have specific eligibility requirements, and each case receives the attention of a worker with specialized knowledge in this area. Applications for eligibility should be made at Department of Social Services as soon as the potential problem becomes known. ADVANCED BANKRUPTCY CLINIC | TOURO LAW CENTER

Will represent debtors in Chapter 13 Proceedings, in which debtors arrange a multi-year payment plan to pay outstanding debts and avoid liquidation. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation. However, the clinics have limited resources and cannot take every case, no matter how deserving. Clinic staff members meet with potential clients by appointment only. Provides emergency assistance to individuals with an urgent need for food, personal care items, medication, or other assistance due to an unforeseen emergency; food vouchers provided. Works with clients on budgeting to prevent future emergencies. Provides group for separated/divorced parents and significant others who want to reduce conflict and effectively parent their children. Provides domestic violence classes for men whose participation is court ordered. These classes provide information on the impact of men's abuse of power on family members; men's violence against women in society and how to end it; the historical, societal and cultural aspects of domestic abuse, oppression, racism, and sexism; and community efforts to stop domestic violence at the local and national level.
