Court-supervised treatment program for Tompkins County residents with drug and/or alcohol addiction and facing criminal charges.Participants make regular court appearances before the judge. Program is staffed by a team from community agencies specializing in substance abuse, mental health, probation, housing, employment and education.

Hears matters involving children and families including adoption, guardianship, foster care approval and review, juvenile delinquency, family violence, child abuse and neglect, as well as child support, custody, and visitation. Offers Family Treatment Court, designed to help families stay together by providing intensive case management services. Assists participants in addressing substance abuse and other issues which may prevent them from parenting their children. Provides referrals to chemical dependency services.

Conducts trials in felony matters within Lewis County as well as misdemeanor cases and other minor offenses. Has limited authority over cases involving claims for money damages up to $25,000.

Programs exist to help defendants with chemical dependency problems to reduce or eliminate certain criminal charges in exchange for participating in treatment and remaining drug and alcohol free. Services Provided Include: Clinical staff from court services working together with the judges, District Attorney's Office, and defense attorneys to engage defendants in treatment. This collaborative effort is designed to focus on chemical dependency issues that may have contributed to the offenses and to prevent recidivism into the criminal justice system. Completion of treatment may, at the discretion of the district attorney and/or judge, result in a lesser sentence / plea. In some cases, participants may avoid incarceration. In the court services programs, participants receive clinical assessments, treatment placements, case management, and crisis interventions. Progress reports are sent to the court on how the participants are progressing in treatment. Call for detailed information regarding all programs offered.

Drug courts use a collaborative approach to treatment involving defense attorneys, prosecutors, treatment and education providers, and law enforcement officials. Non-violent offenders voluntarily enter the program in which rules are clearly defined and a contract between the offender, attorneys, the District Attorney and the court is signed.

Provides qualified addicted offenders a comprehensive drug treatment program under intensive judicial supervision which includes educational and vocational training.
