The Community Work Service Program is an alternative sentence for first-time offenders under the age of 21, charged with a misdemeanor. A judge will offer the person charged an opportunity to do community service and will be monitored by a program coordinator.

PINS provides a diversion program for youth who have become involved with the law due to at risk behaviors or becoming arrested for minor crimes.

Pre and post-diversion program for youth arrested for or accused of harm in Tonawanda. Diverts youth away from Family Court in the Town of Tonawanda, both before and after arrest. Youth are given the option of a Restorative Conference, where the responsible youth and their support people meet with those they’ve harmed and community members to discuss the impact of the crime and what might repair the harm. If the youth fulfill their Conferencing Agreement, their charges are dropped.

Works with youth who have been placed on probation through a parent or school PINS petition and are at risk of being adjudicated to higher level probation or placement in a Division for Youth facility. Offers home and/or school visits on a weekly basis. Services include, but are not limited to, anger management, school advocacy, life skills coaching, communication skills, job assistance, self -esteem, self-awareness and parent education. Offers a Victim Impact Panel run by the Suffolk County Probation Department in conjunction with the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD). The DUI Victim Impact Panel Program is an awareness program for offenders convicted of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. The panels consist of a non-confrontational presentation consisting of crime victims telling their own personal stories of how impaired drivers forever changed their lives. The panel presents a unique perspective to the offender that is often overlooked or simply cannot be taught by the courts and the DUI offender schools. The Probation Department’s primary function is to provide community based supervision for adult and juvenile offenders.

The Pretrial Release program aims to reduce the frequency of unnecessary incarceration in the jail by assessing the defendant’s qualifications for release on his/her own recognizance, based on non-financial conditions.

Provides a mental health program designed for the criminal offender suffering from serious mental illness to successfully reintegrate into the community upon release

Outpatient mental health services including individual, marital, family, parent, and group therapy; depression and anxiety counseling; psychiatric assessment and treatment; medication management and provision; crisis intervention and case management; specialized programs in stress management; domestic violence intervention for victims and perpetrators; and trauma recovery.

Provides PINS Diversion services to families where youth are at risk of PINS petition and, when appropriate, assists with filing of PINS petitions. Services to adults 18+ yrs unable to care for themselves includes investigation, coordination of services, financial management, arranging for support systems, alternative placement, and access to medical care, legal services and benefits.

Serves eviction notices, judgments for payroll deductions, and any other orders as established by the courts. Also attempts in recovering of monies and/or properties as a result of court orders. Accepts payments of bail and other fines for release from jail prior to trial.

Latinas Prosperando or Thriving Latinas program is for Latina immigrant women who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or stalking. Case management, ESL classes, financial literacy, education on housing search options, and workforce development support is provided. Knitting Our Stories - Tejiendo Nuestras Historias, provides a safe space where women can learn to heal from past traumatic experiences through a culturally-adapted support group and art therapy.
