DVU supervises cases referred by the courts for persons who have committed domestic violence offenses and insures compliance for court orders.

Responsible for the service and enforcement of orders of protection throughout Suffolk County. They also arrest individuals charged with violating orders of protection and those with family offense related warrants. The Unit provides victims with a safe refuge by removing batterers from the home, seizing weapons and executing arrest warrants against the perpetrators of domestic violence. Provides court mandated 26, 40, and 52 session educational programs for male domestic violence offenders. Serves as an accountability mechanism for the domestic violence, civil, and criminal courts, as well as agents of the courts--probation, parole, and Child Protective Services (CPS)--as part of a coordinated civil and criminal justice response to men's violence against a partner. Men may also participate voluntarily.

Provides follow-up and referral services to adult victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Program works to enhance victim safety and support as well as perpetrator accountability. Staff collaborates with Jamestown City Court, Chautauqua County District Attorney's office, Catholic Charities (domestic violence classes for men), Chautauqua County Probation/Parole, Salvation Army, and many other human service counseling agencies to provide a coordinated community response to domestic violence. Coalition consists of service providers, health care professionals, law enforcement personnel, clergy, and business sectors that meet every other month to address the needs of those affected by interpersonal violence. Provides individual, youth, and family counseling, play therapy, co-parenting help for unmarried parents, budget counseling, emergency food assistance, information and referral, advocacy, services to the elderly and their families, and domestic violence classes if mandated by the court. During the holiday season, provides assistance with coats, food vouchers to purchase ingredients for holiday meals, and toys/gifts for families who are not receiving gifts from Toys for Tots or Salvation Army.
