Investigating all reported domestic incidents and providing assistance to victims of Domestic Violence. The Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse Bureau of the Suffolk County Police Department conducts confidential investigations involving domestic violence and elder abuse, and acts as a liaison to the courts, outside agencies and governmental entities. The Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse Bureau also provides outreach to victims of domestic violence and raises community awareness through education regarding family violence issues. Offers educational awareness programs to civic organizations, schools, mental health agencies and institutions concerning the epidemic of domestic violence, women's reentry, human trafficking, and teen dating awareness.

Responsible for the service and enforcement of orders of protection throughout Suffolk County. They also arrest individuals charged with violating orders of protection and those with family offense related warrants. The Unit provides victims with a safe refuge by removing batterers from the home, seizing weapons and executing arrest warrants against the perpetrators of domestic violence. Provides individual, youth, and family counseling, play therapy, co-parenting help for unmarried parents, budget counseling, emergency food assistance, information and referral, advocacy, services to the elderly and their families, and domestic violence classes if mandated by the court. Holds hour-and-a-half virtual sessions where court mandated participants are confronted by an individual who lost a loved one or experienced tragic losses due to someone else's drinking and driving. Program ends with an educational session to assist participants in making low risk choices around drinking.

Provides crisis intervention services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. Services include 24-hour hotline, advocacy, and accompaniment through medical, law enforcement and court proceedings, counseling, and support groups

Assistance applying for financial assistance to help with medical bills, lost wages, and counseling expenses related to the crime through the Victim Compensation Claims Assistance. Helps victims navigate the legal system through Court Advocacy/Victim Assistance.

Provides a 26 week men's batterer accountability program to hold abusers accountable for their acts of domestic violence.

Introduces victim's point of view to convicted DWI offenders. When victim's statements are told in person, from the heart, in neither blaming or accusatory way, it may enable offender, perhaps for first time, to consider the pain and suffering drinking can cause others; seeks to help offender move beyond focusing on their own "bad luck"; may serve as first step in breaking down denial of offender's mind which may replay when drinking and driving is again an option; may change behavior and save lives.

Provides a number of support services for anyone who is a victim of domestic violence and sexual assault. Services include 24/7 hotline, confidential emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, court assistance and accompaniment, safety for pets left behind, transportation, translation and referrals to other services or resources that will be needed. Also provides multilingual and culturally focused services for lesbians, gays, Latinos, African-American, Asian, Haitian, and Jewish Orthodox.

Provides emergency assistance to individuals with an urgent need for food, personal care items, medication, or other assistance due to an unforeseen emergency; food vouchers provided. Works with clients on budgeting to prevent future emergencies. Provides group for separated/divorced parents and significant others who want to reduce conflict and effectively parent their children. Provides domestic violence classes for men whose participation is court ordered. These classes provide information on the impact of men's abuse of power on family members; men's violence against women in society and how to end it; the historical, societal and cultural aspects of domestic abuse, oppression, racism, and sexism; and community efforts to stop domestic violence at the local and national level. Also provides friendly phone calls for older adults in Genesee County.

Program designed to strengthen male and father engagement with children and families throughout the city of Buffalo and Western New York. Services include: - Parenting and relationships education through the 13-week Nurturing Fathers Program - Mentoring, coaching, and resource navigation for young adult fathers aged 18–24 - Personal finance education - Domestic violence programming through the 17-week Caring Dads Program

Provides court mandated 26, 40, and 52 session educational programs for male domestic violence offenders. Serves as an accountability mechanism for the domestic violence, civil, and criminal courts, as well as agents of the courts--probation, parole, and Child Protective Services (CPS)--as part of a coordinated civil and criminal justice response to men's violence against a partner. Men may also participate voluntarily.

Adult group counseling program which teaches self-esteem improvement, relationship awareness, stress and anger management, and communication skills as an alternative to domestic violence.

Provides assistance to individuals who have a history of aggressive behavior with the opportunities of change learned behaviors through education. Clients are educated on the legal implications of their behavior as well as its efforts on their significant other and family members. Emphasis is placed on learning to take responsibility for one's behavior and learning to control violent impulses. Clients are given information on counseling services available to them and their families.

Provides an emergency shelter for domestic violence victims and their children. Offers supportive counseling, case management services, parenting services, peer support, advocacy in court and with the Department of Social Services, assistance in finding transitional and permanent housing, referrals for medical treatment, vocational counseling/training, and aftercare.

Latinas Prosperando or Thriving Latinas program is for Latina immigrant women who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or stalking. Case management, ESL classes, financial literacy, education on housing search options, and workforce development support is provided. Knitting Our Stories - Tejiendo Nuestras Historias, provides a safe space where women can learn to heal from past traumatic experiences through a culturally-adapted support group and art therapy.
