The chief prosecuting officer for the county who is responsible for initiating charges and prosecuting people accused of felony and misdemeanor offenses, enforcing laws, and investigating allegations of major fraud, organized criminal activity and corruption as well as unlawful conduct by public officials.
Serves as the guardian of the legal rights of the citizens of New York, its organizations and its natural resources, and advises the Executive branch of State government, but also defends actions and proceedings on behalf of the State.
Represents the Town and the Town Board in litigation. Approves all legal matters before they are presented to the Town Board.

The District Attorney prosecutes all Criminal Cases filed in the County. Prosecutions are conducted by Assistant District Attorneys in City, Town and Village Courts. Felony cases are prosecuted in county court. The office also prosecutes appeals in both state and federal courts.
Acts as principal legal advisor to the Town Board and all town departments represents town before any court in matters affecting its interest drafts resolutions, local laws and ordinances for the Town Board.
