Provides services to assist adults age 18 or older who, because of physical or mental impairments, can no longer provide for their basic needs for food, clothing, shelter or medical care, or protect themselves from neglect, abuse or hazardous situations, and have no one willing and/or able to help in a responsible manner.

Investigates reports of suspected abuse and maltreatment of children received from the NY State Central Registry for Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Caseworkers assess multiple risk factors and the safety of the children involved to determine if the family needs assistance in order to keep their children safe.

It also offers support services to victims, including counseling and referral to shelters.

If desired, a staff member of the Victim Services Unit will accompany the victim or witness to hearings and trial in order to provide support; Assistance with Property Return; Intervention with creditors and employers; Referrals to any social services you may need and Assistance with post-conviction proceedings, including the preparation of a Victim Impact Statement if a pre-sentence report is prepared in the case; speaking at the time of sentencing for felony offenses; and notifications regarding the defendant's parole or release from a correctional facility. Workshops and seminars for educators, para-professionals, and other professionals on child abuse prevention, positive discipline, internet safety, bully prevention, and keeping children safe from sexual abuse. Programs held on-site and off-site.

Offers two and three-session workshops for elementary, middle, and high school students in classroom settings across Long Island at no cost. Programs include child abuse prevention, bully prevention, relational aggression, sexual harassment, date rape and Internet safety.
