Offers the first of its kind in the country operating from inside a correctional facility. S.A.T.I. has been pioneering the campaign against human trafficking from the correctional standpoint by establishing a comprehensive and effective response to the crime. The unit works in collaboration with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies by developing and forwarding intelligence gleaned from the correctional facility setting. In addition, they refer victims and work closely with advocacy groups in efforts to assist the victims on their road to recovery. The principal objectives are to ensure that all victims of human trafficking who pass through our facility are identified, have access to the services they need to recover, and are supported throughout their long-term journey as survivors. The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office has designated teams of officers in our Human Trafficking Unit tracking activity within our Correctional Facilities as well as in the community. * Provides case coordination and advocacy for commercially sexually exploited (CSE) youth. Provides a number of support services for anyone who is a victim of labor or sex trafficking. Services include confidential emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, court assistance and accompaniment, safety for pets left behind, transportation, translation and referrals to other services or resources that will be needed. Also provides multilingual and culturally focused services for members of the African American, Asian, Haitian, Latino, Jewish/Orthodox, and LGBTQ communities.

Works to create a more effective and efficient response to youths who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation or trafficking, or who are vulnerable to it.

Provides a systems-level, trauma-informed approach to the prevention and identification of commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and child trafficking, and provides services to survivors of CSEC and child trafficking. Leverages existing local resources to create a more efficiently coordinated response for youth who have been identified as survivors and those considered at-risk. The Safe Harbour Coordinator is responsible for streamlining Chautauqua County's Safe Harbour policies and procedures, educating allied professionals and community members to recognize the signs, and raising awareness about child trafficking and CSEC.

Prosecutes all cases involving sexual assault, domestic violence, abuse of vulnerable persons and child abuse. The Bureau contains two specialized units: The Human Trafficking Unit and the Elder Abuse Unit. The Elder Abuse Unit investigates and prosecutes any crimes of physical violence against persons 65 years or older committed by family members or caregivers, whether in a facility or at home. The Unit is a part of the Nassau County Enhanced Multi-Disciplinary Team that works with Adult Protective Services, Nassau County Office for the Aging, and other agencies that collaborate to review allegations of suspected elder abuse, provide support and resources for victims and their families, and prosecute cases when appropriate. The Human Trafficking Unit is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all Sex Trafficking charges and any prostitution-related crimes. It also handles cases pending in the Human Trafficking Intervention Court, where individuals charged with Prostitution and similar offenses are provided with assistance and services. The Human Trafficking Unit offers constant training to ADAs, members of law enforcement and the community in order to help identify these cases early and prevent trafficking within Nassau County.
