The Sexual Assault and Crime Victims Assistance Program for Rensselaer is committed to reducing the trauma of sexual assault, crime and violence as well as providing community education for its prevention. We are dedicated to creating a supportive, caring environment for victims-survivors and their families to enhance the healing process.

Serves as a sentencing option for use by the courts for men convicted of abuse toward their partners. Focuses on giving men a wide range of information about intimate partner abuse.

Provides prevention, intervention, and education services. Offers community, professional, and school-based education on domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and dating violence. Provides advocacy, accompaniment, referrals, emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, and emotional support to individuals experiencing domestic and/or sexual violence.

Provides an awareness program for college students, faculty and staff. These trainings educate attendees on the red flags of abuse, where to go both on and off campus for help, how to help a friend who may be abused, sexual assault and the conditions of consent, how to be an active bystander, and how to report a crime and know your rights. In addition, students and staff will be educated on policies regarding the distribution of sexually explicitly images/videos.

Provides adult and child sexual abuse education and rape prevention for children, teens and adults. Offers internet safety prevention education for teens, parents and professionals working with children, contract agencies, (Pre-K-Grade 12), and the general public. Works with pre-school and elementary age children in local schools, teaching personal safety, and educates parents and teachers about protecting children from sexual exploitation.

Offers information on a variety of crime prevention issues, programs or services, from public awareness, protection, and possible ways to prevent crime, etc. Also provides a helpline for those who have been crime victims.

Provides national efforts to locate and recover missing children and raises public awareness about ways to prevent child abduction, molestation, and sexual exploitation as well as offering child safety information and literature on various topics. Also provides advocacy, prevention programs, family support, and an on line location for reporting internet child pornography (the Cyber Tip Line).

Offers Outreach and Prevention Programs designed to inform and empower the community on topics of Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking through advocacy and education in an effort to reduce the occurrence of these problems. Programs work to spread awareness on how to handle disclosures in a trauma informed way and to link audience with relevant resources in the community.

Sexual Assault and Prevention Services-SAPA (formerly known as Rape Crisis Services or Orange County Rape Crisis) provides 24/7 advocacy services including crisis intervention and accompaniment for adult and child survivors of sexual violence.

Provides services for children who have been sexually or physically abused, and their non offending caregivers. Works directly with law enforcement and child protective services to investigate allegations of child abuse. Offers facilities to conduct child interviews, medical exams, mental health counseling and after care in a child-friendly environment. Services available on a referral-basis only.

Offers a crisis intervention hotline to victims of rape and sexual assault. Also provides clients advocacy, transportation, court accompaniment and preparation, and individual and group counseling. Provides to the community education and primary prevention services. Crime Victim Compensation assistance through the NYS office of Victim Services.

Speakers are available to make presentations on topics including sexual assault, crime prevention, self-protection, bullying, sexual harassment, the dynamics of victimization, stalking, and program services.

Offers domestic violence and sexual assault prevention education and outreach to community organizations and schools. Community educators or leaders are able to create presentations, attend conferences and sit in on informational panels. A wide range of prevention presentations are offered to elementary, middle, and high school students in the community.

Domestic violence services include hotline, counseling, court accompaniment, assistance with obtaining orders of protection, and referrals for safe housing.

Provides crisis intervention and support services to anyone who is a survivor of sexual assault or domestic violence and to their families. All services are confidential. Trained counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide information and support, enabling clients to make informed choices concerning medical, legal, and counseling needs, while offering advocacy and information about their rights. Counselors offer short-term counseling (6-8 sessions); medical, legal, and court accompaniment; crisis intervention for sexual assault survivors and their significant others; support through medical examinations and treatment; advocacy and support during interaction with law enforcement; individual consultations with professionals; community education programs; professional training programs; and referrals for additional needed services.
