Neighborhood Legal Services - Batavia Site

A not-for-profit public interest firm providing free legal services to low-income individuals and families in Western New York. NLS aims to create the greatest access to the justice system for low-income individuals and those living with disabilities to pursue goals that will increase both the stability and the quality of their lives. Offers legal counseling, information, and assistance with such concerns as Health Care Proxy, wills, guardianship, power of attorney, living wills and trusts, consumer fraud, contractual disputes, tenant-landlord disputes, home ownership questions, neighbor disputes, Social Security questions, Medicare and Medicaid related problems, SSI application, and eligibility questions.

Offers free, confidential individual and family counseling, as well as crisis intervention. Issues covered include family conflict, parenting issues, divorce, separation, grief, substance abuse, mental health issues, anger management, and behavioral difficulties. Also provides assistance with enrollment for food stamps, health insurance, and other benefits.

Provides primary care and emergency services for veterans. Inpatient and outpatient treatment includes evaluation, treatment, medical, surgical, psychiatry, neurology and rehabilitation medicine. A full range of health screenings, health education resources, and prevention programs (weight, smoking cessation) are available. Services for women veterans include GYN services, PAP smears, mammograms, and programs for domestic violence and sexual trauma. Independent Living of Niagara County - ILNC - Lockport

Works to educate, empower, and to promote equality of all people with disabilities in Niagara County. Provides peer supports, information and referral, advocacy, transition supports, and peer services to people with any functional limitations. Has many programs and resources to assist constituents, including Deaf Services, Medicaid Application Assistance Program, Independent Living Skills training, Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Services (CDPAS), and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and benefit/entitlement services for individuals with disabilities. Also offers a medical loan closet. Addict 2 Addict (A2A): A peer-led team serving people with substance use disorders and their families and loved ones. Peers (in sustained recovery themselves and/or having loved ones with a substance use disorder) share their recovery experience and help those with substance use disorders navigate the many avenues to take by offering information, advocacy, and Peer Counseling to help them reach their first steps on the path to recovery. The team is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and will respond to a call at 716-498-4333 within 24 hours.

Offers a range of vocational rehabilitation services that assist clients with mental illness to select, obtain, and maintain preferred competitive employment positions in the community. Programs include: - Supported Employment: Assistance with selecting, obtaining, and maintaining a competitive job with on-the-job and off-the-job support. - Rapid Employment/Job Placement: Assistance with finding a competitive job in the community. - Ticket to Work (TTW): Very flexible employment services designed to meet individual employment needs. Allows clients to choose from a range of services listed in other programs. Typically individuals in the Ticket to Work program have a work history and desire to work approximately 25+ hours/week with the goal to eventually be off of entitlement benefits (SSI/SSDI). - Peer Specialist Program at Leroy Manor: Designed to provide outreach and peer support to individuals with mental health conditions in a residential setting. Other services include Job Search, Placement, and Support, Resume and Cover Letter Development, Interview Preparation and Practice, Skills Development, Work Readiness Classes, and Benefits Advisement. Also provides Peer Bridger support services for individuals who are coming out of Rochester Psychiatric Center or other Article 28 hospitals as well as individuals diagnosed with a mental health condition that are residing in the community. These services help individuals link to and engage with needed resources/supports. Assistance with linking appropriate resources and determining eligibility for SSI, Medicaid, Lifeline, Food Stamps, and telephone discounts. Services provided on a case-by-case basis after assessment.
