A not-for-profit public interest firm providing free legal services to low-income individuals and families in Western New York. NLS aims to create the greatest access to the justice system for low-income individuals and those living with disabilities to pursue goals that will increase both the stability and the quality of their lives. Offers services to help veterans learn about your options for buying, renting or finding emergency housing, and using your military benefits to assist you in the most appropriate way for your and your family’s needs. Additionally, we can help you obtain VA benefits and assistance available at the federal level. Call for detailed information.

Offers veterans and their families guidance in matters relating to military service and securing benefits earned through military service.

Advocates on behalf of all veterans, advises Supervisor and Town Council on veterans' affairs and issues, promotes military observances and holidays to the general public, and educates the community regarding significant contributions by veterans to America's freedom.

Assists veterans with benefits assistance, from filing out applications to advocating for needs.

Provides free legal assistance to veterans and their families. The clinic gives priority to matters that will prevent or relieve homelessness or remove barriers to the reintegration of veterans into civilian life. Typical matters handled in the clinic include: Landlord-tenant/eviction; Debt relief/collection; Bankruptcy; Mortgage Foreclosure; Driver’s license restoration; Child support modification; Unemployment insurance; Warrants and fines; Income tax; Benefits applications and appeals and Discharge upgrades. All representation is free of charge and strictly confidential. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation. However, the clinics have limited resources and cannot take every case, no matter how deserving. Clinic staff members meet with potential clients by appointment only. Informs and assist members of the armed forces, veterans, their dependents and survivors in relation to (1) matters pertaining to education, training and retraining services and facilities, (2) health, medical and rehabilitation services and facilities, (3) provisions of federal, state and local laws and regulations affording special rights and privileges to members of the armed forces, veterans and their families, (4) employment and re-employment services, and other matters of similar related or appropriate nature. Provides information and assistance to veterans, family members, and active military personnel in obtaining records, benefits, and entitlements from the Department of Veteran's Affairs.

Assists military personnel, who have returned from active duty, to apply for benefits which they may need, or to help them find services.

Veterans Benefits Counselor on staff to assist veterans and their families file claims for veterans' benefits. In addition, offers veterans generous discounts at most town park facilities and on recreational programs; a real property tax exemption program and offers free pet adoptions for veterans who wish to adopt a companion from the town's Animal Shelter. Provides wrap around services and temporary financial assistance(TFA). The services offered include, but are not limited to, emergency housing referrals, assistance searching for housing, connection to local, state and federal benefits, employment and training services, financial literacy services, budget advisory, rental and arrears assistance, utility arrears, security deposits, storage and moving costs, temporary financial assistance and connection to child care providers.

Assistance and advocacy with obtaining benefits for a range of services such as funerals and burials, disability claims and compensation, nursing home care and VA pensions. Information on Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder and job finding assistance.

Provides assistance and advocacy for veterans and their dependents if they need benefits.

Offers support and assistance to veterans with honorable discharge and to their families, including active national guards and their families.

Provides outreach to Veterans identified as at risk of suicide, provides a baseline mental health assessment to potential participants in the program, and provides the following services for eligible participants:

• Coordination of emergency treatment for participants, including coverage of any initial monetary charges for treatment, as long as the participant receives ongoing clinical services through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
• Case management with a holistic, individualized approach
• Peer support
• Assistance in obtaining VA benefits, including but not limited to vocational and rehabilitation services, employment and training services, educational assistance, housing assistance, and health care (including mental health care) services
• Assistance in obtaining and coordinating with other public benefits for crisis-related needs, including health care services, daily living services, legal services, personal financial planning, credit counseling, and employment and vocational services
• Eligible temporary income support assistance
• Transportation assistance in the form of public transportation tokens
• Childcare payment assistance for children under the age of 13
• General suicide prevention stability assistance, which can assist participants with funds to cover anything that may be contributing to a suicidal factor specific to a participant
• Other suicide prevention services that are necessary for improving mental health such as adaptive sports, equine therapy, indoor or outdoor recreational therapy, substance use reduction programming, and individual, group, or family counseling

All financial assistance is provided directly to third parties for services to veterans, and funds do not go directly to veterans themselves. ##Veteran##
