ENHANCED RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM/SPECIAL EDUCATION - CHWC | CHILDREN'S HOME OF WYOMING CONFERENCE

This program serves co-ed youth in need of a supportive, educational environment. The length of stay is determined by the Committees on Special Education (CSE) in consultation with parents. This program offers clinical, educational, and residential service components. While in this program, children attend our on-campus school, licensed by the New York State Education Department. Speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy as well as psychiatric and psychological assessment are provided.

BEACON PROGRAM | EASTERN CAMPUS

Offers a concurrent enrollment program that allows high school juniors and seniors to take the College's courses at their high school campus during their regular school hours, while simultaneously working toward high school graduation. College credits earned through the Beacon Program can be applied toward high school graduation and accepted at the College or transferred to a multitude of other colleges and universities. Enrollment in a course offered through the Beacon Program generates an official college academic transcript for each student. Acceptance of credit for college-level course work is under the domain of the receiving colleges and universities. The program is designed to provide curricular opportunity and enhancement of the college experience, but not its replacement. This PASS program is serving disabled and non-disabled students of middle and high school ages, offers a highly structured environment in which instructional and behavioral deficits can be addressed within a small group setting for high school aged students. The educational environment parallels that of the Brennan High School. Students may or may not be classified as special education students. All are in need of alternative education. Truancy, non-compliance with school rules and generally disruptive behavior often characterize a student in crisis; such a student is appropriate for the PASS program. Students who are at risk due to poor achievement may also be referred to this program where they will be afforded many support services to ensure success.

BRENNAN MIDDLE SCHOOL | BRENNAN MIDDLE SCHOOL

Serves disabled adolescents, ages eleven through fourteen. This program provides an enriched educational environment that incorporates the Common Core Learning Standard while responding to many of the studentsâ social and psychological needs. Beyond basic academic instructions, many students receive services from consulting psychiatrist either employed by the Office of Mental Health or BOCES and participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities. The classroom teacher, the paraprofessional(s), a psychologist and a social worker assigned to each classroom unit create a team approach. Outreach services to involve families within the school community is an integral part of the Middle School Program. Also offered is the The PASS program at the Brennan Middle/High School. Offers a secondary program which is a collaborative effort between the Special Education Division and the Career & Technical Education Division. This program prepares high school students for graduation and enables them to be self-sufficient adults with ongoing employment and ability to live independently. Students are exposed to various vocational training experiences in this program. Special education staff provide academic instruction that incorporates the Common Core Learning Standards while vocation teachers teach the skills needed in each student's chosen vocation. All students at Manor Plains High School participate in one of the small class size programs offered through Wilson Tech. In addition to learning work-based skills, Tech’s Huntington campus also offers MPHS students opportunities to participate in leadership organizations and skills competitions. CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ADJUSTMENT | CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ADJUSTMENT

Meets the unique learning needs of students who are emotionally, behaviorally, or developmentally disabled to a mild/moderate degree through three distinct programs on a closed campus. The Nassau Education and Treatment (NET) Program which is a collaborative effort between Nassau BOCES, Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Hospital (Phase I) and North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center (Phase II). This meets the therapeutic, medical and learning needs for students diagnosed with various psychiatric disorders. The instructional program is aligned to the New York State Learning Standards and addresses students' cognitive levels and learning styles. Students are given the opportunity to: Earn a New York State Regents diploma or other state approved high school diploma and earn college credits through a partnership with S.U.N.Y Farmingdale State College. The Modified High School Program is designed to meet the learning and behavioral needs of students with varying abilities. The curriculum balances transitional and prevocational skills training, functional academics and New York State Learning standards. The instruction is aligned to the Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) standards and leads to a Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential (SACC). The Life Skills Enrichment Program, offers a daily living skills curriculum with a functional academic base to develop job readiness skills. The instruction is aligned with the Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential (SACC). Students participate in non-paid internships at public and non-profit facilities and agencies, such as supermarkets, offices, parks and small businesses supervised by Nassau BOCES staff and on-site personnel to learn a variety of entry level skills. CCA’s behavior support program encourages positive choices, recognizes student achievement and supports the school mission to provide specially designed instruction to meet the social-emotional, academic, behavioral and transitional needs of students. Through a collaborative process among students, staff, families, school districts and outside agencies, CCA maintains a safe and supportive learning community enabling students to become productive, functional and independent members of society.

An alternative program that serves disabled youngsters of high school age who present a variety of educational and emotional needs. A failure to succeed in school is often tied to a variety of emotional problems frequently linked to a disturbance within the family unit. This program provides an enriched educational environment that incorporates the Common Core Learning Standards. They receive ongoing services from consulting psychiatrists, either employed by the Office of Mental Health or BOCES. Transitional classes are available for those students capable of being mainstreamed into a regular high school. An after-school program is offered for students who are unable to attend a normal full-day school due to the students’ disability(ies). This option is also suitable for students who are employed during the school day and who require after-school educational programming to complete their high school studies. Related services, support services and psychiatric consultation services are also offered for students who require these specialized services. Also offered is the PASS Program at Brennan High School. TWILIGHT ALTERNATIVE HIGH SCHOOL | NASSAU BOCES

Provides an alternative setting in the late afternoon for students who have not succeeded in the traditional educational setting. The program gives teenagers the necessary tools to either return successfully to their home high schools, or to complete their high school requirements, while helping them prepare for post-secondary education or employment. Students attend this Regents-based program in the late afternoon in their home school district. Students receive strong educational support, as classes are small and largely focused on the students. Programs are currently available in: Baldwin(with CTE); Bellmore-Merrick (HSE Only); East Rockaway; Freeport (HSE and Regents level); Glen Cove (HSE with ELL support); Hewlett-Woodmere; Hicksville; Massapequa, Plainview-Old Bethpage, Uniondale (HSE and Regents level); Valley Stream CHSD and Wantagh. REGIONAL SPECIAL EDUCATION SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM | DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

Offers a program that was developed in response to requests from local school districts. Eastern Suffolk BOCES organized a consortium to create and oversee a regional summer school program. The program is located in local area school districts and serves students who attend their home districts during the traditional school year. Students with intensive management and/or educational needs require a continuation of district curriculum and instructional approaches during the summer months to prevent regression.

YOUTHBUILD | NUBIAN DIRECTIONS II

Program works with out of school youth ages 16-24 from low-income families. Offers HSE prep, job training, counseling and leadership development. Students build affordable housing. Participants spend 6 to 12 months in the program and split time between the construction projects and GED preparation. Application is required.

ONLINE EDUCATION | MICHAEL J. GRANT CAMPUS

Refers to a specific pedagogy supported by the online digital learning environment Brightspace. Through this environment, instructors engage with students, provide learning activities and materials, and conduct assessments. Student can expect to find engagement, activities and assessment, provided by their instructors, to fully participate in the course. Distance education is an attractive option for individuals who need flexibility and are self-motivated and can work independently. There is no difference in what you are expected to learn; it is the modality delivery that is different. The different types of online education courses include: Online (ONLINE) – engagement and instruction is provided by the professor through Brightspace the college’s learning management system, and students interact with faculty, other students and content working on their own time while adhering to course deadlines; Hybrid/Blended –Instructors meet with students in a classroom on one of the campus locations and the balance of the instruction takes place in Brightspace; or the instructor meets with students in a virtual classroom i.e. Zoom and the balance of the instruction takes place in Brightspace. Ergo, this is a blended format. Blended meetings may be weekly, monthly, or a specific number of times per semester as dictated by an instructor but meeting dates must be clearly advertised in the Banner course schedule and displayed in the course outline; Combined Online 50% Online and 50% online in real time; Real Time Online recreates a classroom experience with your instructor and other class members using live virtual instruction (Zoom) on scheduled days and times; and HyFlex – Simultaneously, some students attend on-campus and some students attend online in real time while all are enrolled in the same course.
