Refers to a specific pedagogy supported by the online digital learning environment Brightspace. Through this environment, instructors engage with students, provide learning activities and materials, and conduct assessments. Student can expect to find engagement, activities and assessment, provided by their instructors, to fully participate in the course. Distance education is an attractive option for individuals who need flexibility and are self-motivated and can work independently. There is no difference in what you are expected to learn; it is the modality delivery that is different. The different types of online education courses include: Online (ONLINE) – engagement and instruction is provided by the professor through Brightspace the college’s learning management system, and students interact with faculty, other students and content working on their own time while adhering to course deadlines; Hybrid/Blended –Instructors meet with students in a classroom on one of the campus locations and the balance of the instruction takes place in Brightspace; or the instructor meets with students in a virtual classroom i.e. Zoom and the balance of the instruction takes place in Brightspace. Ergo, this is a blended format. Blended meetings may be weekly, monthly, or a specific number of times per semester as dictated by an instructor but meeting dates must be clearly advertised in the Banner course schedule and displayed in the course outline; Combined Online 50% Online and 50% online in real time; Real Time Online recreates a classroom experience with your instructor and other class members using live virtual instruction (Zoom) on scheduled days and times; and HyFlex – Simultaneously, some students attend on-campus and some students attend online in real time while all are enrolled in the same course. Offers an amazing public high school program that has transformed the lives of young emerging artists from across Long Island through both its high school and summer programs. LIHSA is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Under New York State’s “4+1” pathway assessment option, students must take and pass four required Regents Exams or Department Approved Alternative assessments and complete a comparably rigorous pathway to meet the fifth assessment requirement for graduation. Students can now do this with completion of the Career and Technical Education-approved exam and the core sequence of classes at LIHSA. Courses are offered in Performing Arts; Visual & Digital Arts; Scenic Construction & Production Technologies; Sonic Arts; Game Design; Multimedia Journalism; 3D Animation and Expressive Arts and Human Development. Our 38,000 square feet of studios and workshops across three buildings are filled with professional workspaces and facilities. Offers the PASS program at the Brennan Middle/High School. This PASS program is serving disabled and non-disabled students of middle and high school ages, offers a highly structured environment in which instructional and behavioral deficits can be addressed within a small group setting for high school aged students. The educational environment parallels that of the Brennan High School. Students may or may not be classified as special education students. All are in need of alternative education. Truancy, non-compliance with school rules and generally disruptive behavior often characterize a student in crisis; such a student is appropriate for the PASS program. Students who are at risk due to poor achievement may also be referred to this program where they will be afforded many support services to ensure success.

WISE aims to encourage students to pursue STEM by linking Stony Brook University graduate and faculty mentors with to high school students. Mentors work closely with H.S.
