School Readiness Project (SRP) | Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Developmental Services (CIDS)

Chemung County School Readiness Project is an initiative to ensure that children arrive at school socially, cognitively, physically and emotionally ready to learn. CIDS provides face to face services to the families of infants and preschoolers, provides child development screening until child enters school, makes in person or virtual visits to support the health and welfare of child and families. Provides both skill-building parent education curricula.

Early Head Start Program | Pro Action of Steuben and Yates - Main Site

Offers services to pregnant women and newborns to age 3 and their families. Weekly home visits provide a variety of materials and activities designed to support cognitive, social and healthy development of infants and toddlers. Center based sites and in home services are available. Services include development assessments, individualized lesson plans, nutritious meals and assistance in accessing health, dental or mental health services.

PARENTCHILD+ | NASSAU BOCES ADULT LEARNING CENTER

Offers a program designed to promote the development of educationally at-risk pre-school children, ParentChild+ sends trained home visitors into participants’ homes to help parents become their children’s first teacher and make home their first classroom. Home visitors teach parents to increase children’s vocabulary through conversation, reading together, and play. They also assist children to develop pre-literacy skills so they will be on a par with their peers when they enter Pre-K. Developmentally appropriate books and toys are used to foster language development and pre-literacy skills. Children of families that participate in this two-year program begin their formal school experiences with a vocabulary that is on a par with children from “middle income” families. Research shows ParentChild+ children continue to achieve academically at the same level or better through the 4th- and 8th-grade standardized tests. Call for more detailed information.

UNIVERSAL PRE-KINDERGARTEN - RONKONKOMA | COMMUNITY PROGRAM CENTERS OF LONG ISLAND - RONKONKOMA

Offers a Pre-Kindergarten program for 4 year olds eligible for kindergarten the following September in either Connetquot or Middle Country School Districts. Connetquot offers a half day comprehensive early childhood education program. Middle County offers a 6.5 hour day. Activities promote social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. ParentChild+ at KULC

An intensive school-readiness home visitation program for toddlers and parents. Trained Early Learning Specialists visit families in their homes for one half-hour twice a week for a minimum of 23 weeks, for up to two program years. The Early Learning Specialist bring educational books and toys, which are used to develop early literacy and school readiness skills, increase the parent-child verbal interaction, model positive parenting, and promote pro-social behaviors. Learning materials gifted to the family serve the additional purpose of creating an educational environment in the home that generalizes to other siblings and serves as a bridge to starting school.
