The course has 80 hours of instructor-led sessions in the classroom. DIALYSIS TECHNICIAN PROGRAM | NASSAU COMMUNITY COLLEGE CONTINUING EDUCATION & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Offers a program that will provide students with the knowledge needed to perform the duties required of an entry-level Dialysis Technician trainee. The program covers the key principles of kidney function and failure and dialysis therapy, kidney dialysis machines, dialyzer preparation and reprocessing, as well as how to assist dialysis patients in managing their disease and treatment. The course is a remote format with 50 hours of instructor-led classes via Zoom video conferencing and access to an online system. Students with a high school diploma and who complete a minimum of one year of employment as a Dialysis Technician at an End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or medical facility can apply to take the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing Technology (BONENT) Certified Hemodialysis Technician certifying exam. A current, government-issued ID and a clear record with no felonies is required to take the exam. This training is appropriate for RNs, EMTs, CNAs, PCTs and other health care professionals interested in specializing in dialysis. For those without healthcare experience, this course will provide basic dialysis treatment knowledge to make the student more marketable in applying for an employee training program at a Dialysis Treatment Center. Offers a program in partnership with the Nassau County Emergency Medical Services Academy. This program is the approved New York State Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) course which will prepare you to become a certified EMT. During 132 hours of class, students will complete the American Heart Association CPR course. In addition to classroom training, students must complete a clinical experience of 10 hours in an emergency room of a local hospital and may have an opportunity for a ride-along. Students must also complete three on-line classes, provided free of charge by FEMA. To qualify for the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) certifying exam, students must attend all classes, complete all assignments, have a clear (no felonies) background check and pass the final written exam and practical skills exam. Students who pass the NYS exam will receive Emergency Medical Technician certification from NYSDOH to perform emergency care for and transportation of injured or ill patients. Medical supplies are additional. Student must be 17 years of age by the written exam date. Represents a cooperative effort between the Suffolk County Community College and the Longwood Central School District, governmental agencies and business and industry to provide a unique, comprehensive and supportive environment for students for students who may be at risk of dropping out of school. LPP is funded by a grant from the New York State Education Department. The Liberty Partnerships Program serves those students in grades 7-12 who may not be reaching their academic potential by providing academic services that will improve their ability to complete high school and successfully enter postsecondary education or the workforce. LPP students who are juniors and seniors are also eligible to enroll in a two-semester program that leads successful students to one college credit upon completion. This offering contains a one-semester non-credit course that focuses on reading, writing, study skills, critical thinking and computer skills. The second semester course exposes students to topics of interest to college students and enhances their basic research skills. Additional credit-bearing courses are offered to students who successfully complete this sequence. LPP is funded by a grant from the New York State Education Department. The Liberty Partnerships Program serves those students in grades 7-12 who may not be reaching their academic potential by providing academic services that will improve their ability to complete high school and successfully enter postsecondary education or the workforce. LPP students who are juniors and seniors are also eligible to enroll in a two-semester program that leads successful students to one college credit upon completion. This offering contains a one-semester non-credit course that focuses on reading, writing, study skills, critical thinking and computer skills. The second semester course exposes students to topics of interest to college students and enhances their basic research skills. Additional credit-bearing courses are offered to students who successfully complete this sequence. LPP Program Services include: College preparatory coursework; Suffolk County Community College Seminar (leads to 1.0 college credits); LPP club and newsletter; Team building experiences; Cultural enrichment activities and field trips; Counseling; Tutoring and college placement test; ACT/SAT preparation classes; Regents review sessions; Student and parent leadership sessions and Workforce preparation which includes visits to and internships with business, industry and local colleges. CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER | NASSAU COMMUNITY COLLEGE CONTINUING EDUCATION & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Offered in partnership with World Instructor Training Schools (W.I.T.S.), this course offers students the nationally recognized fitness career training necessary to become a Certified Personal Trainer. This challenging course is for candidates wanting LIVE instruction with indepth, hands-on, practical labs to master the essential career skills and knowledge. The course consists of 15 hours of lecture on key topics like biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage, and health assessment. Fifteen (15) hours of hands-on practical training labs with role-playing drills on assessing clients, programming, performing proper exercises, and presentation skills will be off-site at a nearby gym. In addition, students have the option to complete a 30-hour employer internship at no additional cost. Students can register for the Certified Personal Trainer exams after providing proof of a current CPR/AED certification. Once both the written and practical exams are passed, students will attain Level 1 Certified Personal Trainer status and will then be able to complete the employer internship and advance to the Level 2 Certified Personal Trainer credential. The practical component of the program will take place at a nearby gym facility. This program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
