Invites Nassau County senior citizens to participate in the Senior Observer Program. This program permits Nassau County residents 60 years of age and older to observe credit-bearing courses, tuition free, on a space-available basis. Certain courses at the College are not available through the Senior Observer Program. Although senior observers are not graded or given academic credit, they must meet course prerequisites. While the program provides senior citizens the opportunity to observe a course, the actual extent and level of participation is at the discretion of the instructor. Offers a certificate program in Administrative Business Technology-Medical. The medical curriculum offers students the opportunity to acquire skills necessary to seek employment in doctors' offices, hospitals, research institutions, insurance and pharmaceutical companies, and other health facilities. Students take courses in medical terminology, medical transcription, medical coding, medical billing, and medical office procedures. In partnership with Condensed Curriculum International (CCI), NCC offers a Pharmacy Technician program. The course has 80 hours of instructor-led sessions in the classroom. This program will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue certification including the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. This course covers the following key areas and topics: Pharmacy calculations; Medical terminology specific to the pharmacy; Skills to read and interpret prescriptions; Review of the top 200 drugs; Skills to identify drugs by generic and brand names; Dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, and dose conversions and Dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement. Students will be prepared to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.

Prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing healthcare professions. Nassau Community College (NCC), in partnership with Condensed Curriculum International (CCI), is pleased to offer this Dental Assisting program. The course has 80 hours of instructor-led sessions in the classroom. Students may pursue the Dental Assistant National Board (DANB) Certified Dental Assistant exam, Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam, and the Infection Control Exam (ICE). Students need a high school diploma or equivalent, a current government-issued photo ID, and the application requires disclosure of a Social Security number. The costs of the certification exams are not included. With 3,500 hours of experience and CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS), the applicant can sit for the DANB General Chairside exam and earn DANB CDA certification. . Call for more detailed information.

Offers high school students a non-credit, state-certified Driver and Traffic Safety Education program. Those who successfully complete the course will receive the MV-285 Student Certificate Completion issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. The MV-285 allows students with a NYS Junior Permit to schedule a road test, receive their senior license at the age of 17 instead of 18, and may be eligible for a rate reduction in their automobile insurance. This program consists of 25.5 hours of classroom instruction and 25.5 hours of behind the wheel training and observation. Effective July 1, this course will be offered in-person, on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Please note that XDT100 and XDT200 are corequisites and must be taken together and successfully completed to obtain the MV-285. Is offered to students in 7th through 12th grades in selected school districts. STEP is designed to motivate and prepare financially disadvantaged and underrepresented minority students for careers in science, technology and mathematics-related disciplines, along with licensed professions such as nursing and accountancy. Academic activities that encourage critical thinking, along with intensive instruction in mathematics, science and computer science, are teamed with support services such as counseling and tutoring. This provides a nurturing environment which builds self-esteem as it prepares minority and disadvantaged students for entry into STEM and licensed professions. Services include 16 enrichments sessions in: Science and science research (biology, Genomics/microbiology, physics, earth science, engineering, robotics, nursing/allied health); Math; Communication skills; Leadership; Computer applications; Career awareness; Research program; School-based "club" meetings and Parents' Advocacy Group. The Program Eligibility: Students accepted into the program must meet the guidelines of NYSED, and will include those who have been identified as underrepresented minorities (African-American, Latino, Hispanic-American and Native-American) and/or financially disadvantaged students in grades 7-12. Offers an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors who attend our partner school districts to earn college credits while having an experience of college life. Students enroll in college classes and interact with college faculty, staff and other students. ECP students can earn college-level credits while continuing to complete high school. All classes are taught by college professors, and ECP students are integrated into classes with college students. Each program participant is assigned an ECP counselor. With guidance from the College’s Program staff, students select classes from the general education program or take a sequence of courses in a particular curriculum. Enrollment in courses through Suffolk’s Early College Program generates an official Suffolk academic transcript for each student. Successfully earned credits are accepted at Suffolk or can be transferred to a multitude of other colleges and universities. Acceptance of credit for college-level course work is under the domain of the receiving colleges and universities with general acceptance within State University of New York (SUNY) institutions. Graduates of the program have gone on to notable two and four-year institutions, including Suffolk County Community College and are strong candidates for their Honor’s Program. Offers three ESL programs for students who are non-native speakers of English and may require specialized English language instruction. The three ESL programs offer instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar to students for whom English is a second language. The ESL programs include both part-time and full-time developmental classes on a noncredit basis* and a third program which offers developmental classes on a credit** basis. The aim of all three programs is to provide limited English-proficient students with a functional knowledge of the English language. The programs furnish students with the necessary communication skills to secure gainful employment, perform more effectively in daily life situations, and enroll in further college-level courses, if they so desire. Students should be aware that all ESL courses, credit or non-credit, are considered developmental. Therefore, they do not fulfill any degree or certificate requirements. In partnership with Ancora Corporate Training, NCC is offering a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A training program. This CDL Training Class A Truck Driver program provides the optimal balance between classroom learning and on the road training to better prepare students for the CDL exam. Class sizes are small and experienced instructors will provide you with insight into what it's like to be a truck driver. Students in the CDL Training Class A Tractor Trailer program will gain skills in the areas of: Vehicle inspections; Defensive driving; Range maneuvers; Motor carrier safety regulations; Trip planning; Cargo handling; Size/weight laws; Vehicle maneuvering; Hours of service and Accident prevention. Offers a Yoga Alliance Approved 200-Hour Teacher Training course. This 200-hour course is offered in two parts, over two semesters. This program includes asanas, pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation, and other traditional yoga techniques. This course will be comprised of analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques and guided practice of these techniques. This is a Yoga Alliance approved yoga course. Meetings will be once a week during the week and one weekend a month; a meeting calendar will be distributed at the first meeting.
