DISABILITY SERVICES | EASTERN CAMPUS
Supports the mission, academic programs and the advancement of Suffolk County Community College by ensuring that qualified individuals with disabilities are afforded an equal opportunity to participate in the programs, services and activities at SCCC through the identification and enactment of reasonable accommodations to institutional policies and procedures, the provision of effective auxiliary aides and services and other support services while cultivating a campus culture that is sensitive and responsive to the needs of students. Refers to a specific pedagogy supported by the online digital learning environment Brightspace. Through this environment, instructors engage with students, provide learning activities and materials, and conduct assessments. Student can expect to find engagement, activities and assessment, provided by their instructors, to fully participate in the course. Distance education is an attractive option for individuals who need flexibility and are self-motivated and can work independently. There is no difference in what you are expected to learn; it is the modality delivery that is different. The different types of online education courses include: Online (ONLINE) – engagement and instruction is provided by the professor through Brightspace the college’s learning management system, and students interact with faculty, other students and content working on their own time while adhering to course deadlines; Hybrid/Blended –Instructors meet with students in a classroom on one of the campus locations and the balance of the instruction takes place in Brightspace; or the instructor meets with students in a virtual classroom i.e. Zoom and the balance of the instruction takes place in Brightspace. Ergo, this is a blended format. Blended meetings may be weekly, monthly, or a specific number of times per semester as dictated by an instructor but meeting dates must be clearly advertised in the Banner course schedule and displayed in the course outline; Combined Online 50% Online and 50% online in real time; Real Time Online recreates a classroom experience with your instructor and other class members using live virtual instruction (Zoom) on scheduled days and times; and HyFlex – Simultaneously, some students attend on-campus and some students attend online in real time while all are enrolled in the same course. CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER | NASSAU COMMUNITY COLLEGE CONTINUING EDUCATION & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Offered in partnership with World Instructor Training Schools (W.I.T.S.), this course offers students the nationally recognized fitness career training necessary to become a Certified Personal Trainer. This challenging course is for candidates wanting LIVE instruction with indepth, hands-on, practical labs to master the essential career skills and knowledge. The course consists of 15 hours of lecture on key topics like biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage, and health assessment. Fifteen (15) hours of hands-on practical training labs with role-playing drills on assessing clients, programming, performing proper exercises, and presentation skills will be off-site at a nearby gym. In addition, students have the option to complete a 30-hour employer internship at no additional cost. Students can register for the Certified Personal Trainer exams after providing proof of a current CPR/AED certification. Once both the written and practical exams are passed, students will attain Level 1 Certified Personal Trainer status and will then be able to complete the employer internship and advance to the Level 2 Certified Personal Trainer credential. The practical component of the program will take place at a nearby gym facility. This program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). CENTER FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN UNDERSTANDING | AMMERMAN CAMPUS
Educate our community on historical events, and to promote issues of social justice and respect for human dignity through educational programming. Our vision is of a world in which each person can live in peaceful coexistence and pursue a life in freedom and dignity, and in which our citizens reflect upon their moral responsibilities. In addition to programs and events, we offer tours of our Holocaust museum which houses the largest collection of Holocaust artifacts in the region. The CSJHU office and Gallery are located in the Huntington Library on the Colleges Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY. Guided tours are available for classes and groups. The Centers staff also arranges diversity and intercultural programs that focus on social justice issues and promote themes of coexistence, tolerance, and respect for differences.
