This program is designed to meet the educational needs of adults wanting to complete their primary and high school education, through basic education classes, GED, English classes and citizenship classes.

Offers residents, ages 21 and over, the literacy skills needed to successfully negotiate positive outcomes for themselves and their children. Designed to meet the post-secondary education as well as the employment needs of Hempstead residents, the Adult and Community Education Program offers traditional literacy classes (ESOL, GED, ABE, Citizenship), information and support services at various sites located throughout the community. Educational case management, individual and group counseling are also offered to meet the needs of students. Referrals to other community sites operating during the day and evenings are made based on need and availability. In addition to helping adult students prepare for the TASC exam and earn their High School Equivalency Diploma, the Adult and Community Education Department offers Adult Basic Education classes for students to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. Students work at their own pace with the help of a certified teacher. Career Counseling and Case Management is available to all students and classes are open to individuals 17 years of age or older regardless of residency.
