Peer support for individuals and families struggling with substance use disorder. Peer to peer engagement, linkage from the hospital or community to treatment and support services.

Offers classes designed for non-native adults seeking to improve their abilities to speak, understand, read and write the English language. Classes are offered at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels; Day and evening classes are available. English as a Second Language, Pre-GED, Pre-literacy, Citizenship and Computer Classes with childcare, health screenings and Know Your Rights Clinics provided on-site during/immediately before and after class hours. While adults take classes, children are offered homework help and crafts/ educational activities in a dedicated children’s program room. Occasionally, other organizations come to the site to offer health screenings, financial literacy, connection to health services and immigration Know Your Rights Clinics immediately before or after class time. Provides courses from basic education (English, Literacy, computer, etc., for adults, a GED program, and continuing education such as advanced computer training, foreign languages, the arts, dance, exercise, cooking, film appreciation, and more.

Offers residents, ages 21 and over, the literacy skills needed to successfully negotiate positive outcomes for themselves and their children. Designed to meet the post-secondary education as well as the employment needs of Hempstead residents, the Adult and Community Education Program offers traditional literacy classes (ESOL, GED, ABE, Citizenship), information and support services at various sites located throughout the community. Educational case management, individual and group counseling are also offered to meet the needs of students. Referrals to other community sites operating during the day and evenings are made based on need and availability. In addition The Adult Education Program also offers Academic Intervention Services, designed to provide quality educational tutoring in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for children between the ages of 5-14 whose parents are actively enrolled and attending the Hempstead Adult and Community Education Program.
