A student-centered collegiate community that annually serves more than 4,300 students in the counties of Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming with 75+ academic degrees, certificates and micro-credentials, and several campus locations in Western New York State. SUNY Genesee awards over 250 student scholarships annually and has an extensive Financial Aid program. In addition to helping adult students prepare for the TASC exam and earn their High School Equivalency Diploma, the Adult and Community Education Department offers Adult Basic Education classes for students to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. Students work at their own pace with the help of a certified teacher. Career Counseling and Case Management is available to all students and classes are open to individuals 17 years of age or older regardless of residency. English as an Alternate Language and Citizenship programming are also offered at the main building and at an addendum site in the morning and evening.

A thrift store which also provides comprehensive job skills training opportunities, employment support services, and educational opportunities for residents for Orleans and Genesee Counties. Thrift store accepts donations of good condition household items, furniture, books, DVDs, CDs, collectibles, current educational materials, craft and hobby items, musical instruments, antiques, small and large appliances, and workplace apparel. Pick up available for donations of large household items and furniture. Employment services include resume and job search assistance, job skills training, and on-the-job work experience. Also offers free access to computers and internet for job searching activities. Educational services include high school equivalency preparation credit recovery. Also provides budgeting assistance, income/expense scheduling, and fax and copy services. Also provides discreet, dignified access to laundry facilities, hygiene products, and life skills support for students in need.

An Office of Mental Health (OMH) funded Recovery Center offering services for adults with mental health conditions. Services include employment support, benefits advisement, parenting classes and support, financial literacy development, educational services, volunteer opportunities, meals, and some social activities. Provides High School Equivalency, English as a Second Language, Distance Learning, and Basic Literacy Classes. Can provide assistance with referral into nursing and trade programs.

Provides a high school diploma program for pregnant and parenting teens throughout Nassau County in a small, structured, nurturing environment. Classes are one to one and in small groups and require some level of motivation on the part of the student. Support services are provided including case management services and advocacy. Services are provided at no cost to the home district or to the parents.

Offers High School Equivalency (HSE) Preparation and General Educational Development (GED) courses. Preparatory classes are available to students who are 17 years of age and older. Courses enable students to prepare for the GED, earn a high school equivalency diploma, improve educational skill levels and increase employment opportunities. The instruction and classes are specially designed and customized for the student’s skill level. Students work at their own pace with instruction in an individual or small group setting. Three-hour classes, which meet twice a week, offer instruction in subjects that include; social studies, reading, English, math, and science. Call for detailed information and course offerings.

Offers remediate and pre-requisite courses in Math, Science, and English for students entering college in need of such classes.

Provides Youth Development Programs, educational programs, recreational activities, individual and family counseling, groupwork, youth advocacy, information and referral and crisis intervention. Also receives in-house support services through the Huntington Youth Bureau which includes substance abuse counseling, emergency short-term housing for homeless youth and their families, GED preparation, vocational counseling, job placement, and a crisis hotline. Offers a program that prepares students to earn a New York State Equivalency Diploma by successfully completing the General Education Diploma Exam (GED®) exam. Instruction is based on the content of the test, which includes Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science. Call for details.

Provides career services to dislocated workers and economically disadvantaged Town of Hempstead residents facing barriers to employment. Services include: testing, computerized assessment (including self-assessment), workshops, personal development seminars concerning job search techniques, resume preparation and the modern workplace, career counseling, basic education programs including basic skills re-dedication, ESL and GED preparation, institutional skills training and college certificate programs, skills development seminars for Introduction to Computers, Keyboarding, Microsoft Word, and Excel. Offers classes designed for non-native adults seeking to improve their abilities to speak, understand, read and write the English language. Classes are offered at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels; Day and evening classes are available.
