Also offered are Seminars/Food for Thought programs which include: How to Excel in Interviews, It’s Not What You Say – It’s How You Say It, Navigating the Medicare Landscape, Savvy IRA Planning for Baby Boomers and Social Security Planning. Please note: senior citizen discounts do not apply to seminars. There are also courses offered through Western Suffolk BOCES, including Adult Basic Education (GED) and classes in English as a Second Language. Course offerings vary each semester. Adult Literacy Tutoring Program - Literacy Buffalo Niagara - Niagara Falls

Provides one-on-one reading and ESL instruction to adults. Instruction provided by volunteer tutors who have been trained at a literacy volunteer tutor workshop. Instruction is provided in public location 2 hours/week at a time convenient to student and tutor.

LITERACY CENTER | MOUNT VERNON PUBLIC LIBRARY

Offers free, confidential, one-to-one tutoring in Basic Literacy and English, including assistance for those who want to improve their English communication skills or their reading and learning skills. Provides after-school academic assistance designed to meet the specific needs of elementary school students from refugee families, with an emphasis on reading, writing, and speaking English. Offers one-on-one homework help and tutoring in reading and math, along with educational and recreational activities, field trips, and opportunities to socialize with friends. A project-based learning curriculum provides a structured atmosphere, allowing for positive enforcement of pro-social behaviors. Book clubs work at each student's ability level to increase their comfort with and love of reading. Also offers a 6-week summer program.
