The department is also responsible for enforcing the Suffolk County Sanitary Code and the Local Laws of Suffolk County. The Bureau of Public Health Protection is comprised of five units: Food Protection, General Sanitation, Radiation Control, Temporary Residences, and Training & Plan Review. Responsible for septic systems, inspections and permit issuance, drinking water testing, public health hazards and nuisances, clean indoor air enforcement, onsite wastewater treatment system regulation, rabies investigations and vaccinations, insect control, West Nile Virus surveillance. Rabies vaccinations: Conducts free rabies vaccination clinics for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets in several locations across Cattaraugus County. All Cattaraugus County residents are eligible for these free vaccinations. Notices will be posted on the Cattaraugus County website, through radio, newspaper ads, fliers on community boards around the County. May also contact us to find out when and where the next clinic will be held.
