Rapidly identifies and isolates a rabid animal and prevent further transmission to humans or other animals. In addition the Bureau helps to prevent the spread of arthropod-borne diseases including viral encephalitis, malaria, and tick-borne diseases including, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease and Tularemia. Surveillance is conducted to determine the presence of various species and prevalence of these pathogens in our arthropod population and investigate health threats of arthropod-borne diseases to Suffolk County residents. Rabies Disease & Vector Control Program - ECDOH

Through enforcement, education, and other disease prevention activities, is responsible for the following health programs: Rabies Prevention: Conducts investigations of domestic animal bites and scratches and wildlife encounters between people and/or their pets. Free Rabies Vaccination Clinics for dogs, cats, and ferrets. Rodent Control: Responds to complaints and service requests regarding rodent infestations; baiting available for eligible properties. Public Health Nuisance Complaints (Public Health Nuisance = anything dangerous to human life or detrimental to health): Conducts investigations of complaints such as, but not limited to: properties that have rodent infestations, improperly stored garbage, junk and debris, improper bird and wildlife feeding, dog feces not cleaned up and disposed of properly. Arbovirus Prevention (Arbovirus = viruses transmitted by bloodsucking arthropods such as ticks, fleas, or mosquitoes): Conducts investigations of complaints such as standing water, improperly maintained swimming pools, and other man-made containers that hold water and create mosquito harborage. A "one-stop shop" system with access to City of Buffalo services, information, and non-emergency police services. Residents can dial 311 within city limits, 716-851-4890 outside the city, visit the website, or download the BUFF311 App to report service needs, check on the status of previous service requests, or obtain information regarding city programs. A report or request can be sent anonymously through the 311 applications, made via online requests or by calling the office. Investigates the control and the spread of mosquitoes through surveillance of mosquito breeding areas, preventing the development of adult mosquitoes, trapping adult mosquitoes, responding to complaints, treating infested areas and testing the trapped mosquitoes for presence of disease. Also Nassau County DOH investigates all reported animal bites. Nassau County Public Health law requires that pets be vaccinated against rabies. This includes, but is not limited to, dogs, cats, and ferrets. Medical providers treating a person who has suffered an animal bite are required to report the incident to the Department. To report a bite incident, please call 516-227-9663 during normal business hours or 516-742-6154 after business hours and on weekends. The department will answer all questions regarding rabies, raccoons, bats, ticks and more. Please report any sick or strange-acting mammals (except small rodents) observed at any time to the Nassau County Department of Health. Call for detailed information.

Environmental Health Division - Chautauqua County Health Department

Conducts property transfer surveys which includes bacteriological water analysis and testing of on-site waste water treatment systems. Regulates all public water supplies as defined by Part 5 of the NYS Sanitary Code. Oversees cooling tower registry and reviews water testing results. Investigates special issues including rabies, radon, nuisance complaints, smoking in public, emergencies related to Public Health, West Nile Virus/Eastern Equine Encephalitis, mosquito vector surveillance, and control measures as warranted. GEESEPEACE | TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND WATERWAYS

Hempstead Town will once again be working in cooperation with the non-profit organization GeesePeace to help control the rapidly increasing Canada Geese population in the area. Residents are encouraged to contact us if they have a problem with the birds on their property. A biologist will respond to address the concern. Because the GeesePeace program runs in concert with the Canada Goose nesting and molting seasons, it is important that residents inform the town about their problem with Canada Geese during this specific time frame. Egg-oiling will take place from April 1st to May 15th and nuisance abatement will occur from mid-May until mid-September. Although these are the best times to address the issue, the town will respond to concerns throughout the year.

Responsible for septic systems, inspections and permit issuance, drinking water testing, public health hazards and nuisances, clean indoor air enforcement, onsite wastewater treatment system regulation, rabies investigations and vaccinations, insect control, West Nile Virus surveillance. Rabies vaccinations: Conducts free rabies vaccination clinics for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets in several locations across Cattaraugus County. All Cattaraugus County residents are eligible for these free vaccinations.
