• Rabies Prevention (receive notification of all dog bites in the county and work with the person that was bitten to make sure they get screened for rabies risk and the need for post-exposure prophylaxis).
• Lead Poisoning Prevention (works with families of children at risk for, or with an elevated blood lead level to reduce that child's level). Testing is not provided by public health but a referral is made to the NYS office.
• Immunization Program (provides mandatory and optional vaccines for the county residents)
• Communicable Disease Program (investigates and coordinates with other agencies on reports of State-defined communicable diseases).

• Family Advocacy: Support and counseling, connecting family with funding resources, housing, transportation, and service providers
• Educational Advocacy: Support and counseling for educational needs after a brain injury, helping family with IEP process, and attendance at CSE meetings
• Outreach: Connection with service providers, hospitals, schools, etc. to increase awareness of BIANYS, traumatic and acquired brain injury, and increasing FACTS enrollment
• Prevention: Connection with service providers, hospitals, schools, etc. to teach injury prevention and safety
• Training: Connection with service providers, hospitals, schools, etc. to conducts training's about traumatic and acquired brain injury

Offers an Adaptive Driver Training program for individuals exhibiting physical or non-physical disabling conditions. Candidates can be first-time drivers or re-trainees. All prospective students must possess a New York State learner permit or valid driver license. Additionally, students are required to undergo a thorough driving evaluation to determine whether the student possesses the appropriate physical, mental, and emotional abilities necessary for success in driver training. All vehicles are fully equipped with adaptive driving equipment for those with physical limitations. One-on-one training is individualized and designed to teach driving habits and skills necessary to pass a New York State road test. The service is available to all school districts, as well as state and private rehabilitation programs and those with a physician’s referral. This course is designated as the Regional Adaptive Driver Training Program of Suffolk County for the Handicapped by the Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation.

The Code Enforcement Division of DOTS is the “building department" of the Town and is responsible for the effective, timely and consistent enforcement of local and state laws. One of the major responsibilities of the Code Enforcement Division is the issuance of building permits, demolition permits and certificates of occupancy. In addition, Code Enforcement is responsible for the review and issuance of several other permits including: steep slopes and wetlands permits, sign permits, alarm permits and prior to zoning letters and duplicate certificates of occupancy in connection with municipal searches.

Enforces the Town's laws pertaining to bays, harbors and waterways. Also patrols the Town's beaches and enforce local ordinances, such as for shell fishing.
