The Town of Huntington offers free “Boating Safety Classes” in March and May. Attendees ages 10+ who register, attend the full 8-hour course, and pass the test will receive a NYS Boating Safety credential issued by NYS Parks.

Training and technical assistance service on workplace health and safety issues, including chemicals, biological agents, ergonomics, indoor air quality, violence, and others.

The Clarkstown Police Department Child Passenger Safety Program is a public awareness and education program aimed at informing parents on the proper use and installation of child safety seats. The goal of the program is to ensure that all child safety seats are installed and used properly so as to provide the highest level of protection possible to children.

Offers lifeguard training and CPR instruction with certification for individuals who want to learn or need to get re-certification.

Provides environmental information, products, and a home safety survey by Health Inspectors/Educators. Home visits include an assessment for indoor air quality, asthma control, carbon monoxide poisoning, fire and burn safety, lead poisoning hazards, unintentional injury, smoking cessation, and housing and property maintenance. Following the home assessment, intervention products and services are provided according to need and interest. Free products include: smoke detectors and batteries, CO detectors, child safety products, cleaning supplies, asthma trigger management supplies, and radon test kits to qualifying families.

These Defensive Driving courses are approved by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles as a course provider under the Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP). Drivers may be eligible to reduce as many as 4 points on your driving record. Principal owners of a vehicle until receive a miminimum of 10% reduction in the base rate of your auto or motor cycle liability and collision insurance premiums for 3 years. Offers CPR instructions to the public for a fee. Courses are offered in adult, child, and infant CPR, and a provider safety renewal course. Contact the Academic Center for Educational Services for more information.

Offers information on a variety of crime prevention issues, programs or services, from public awareness, protection, and possible ways to prevent crime, etc. Also provides a helpline for those who have been crime victims.

A program that brings the Victim Impact Panel model into local high schools as part of the studentâs application for a parking permit to allow students to drive to school. The program mandates that both the student and a parent attend this modified VIP which includes victims of substance related crashes as well as representatives from the District Attorneyâs Office, the insurance industry and the medical community. Parents and students gain an understanding of the serious legal, medical, insurance and emotional costs resulting from drinking, drugging and driving. Families are asked to create a driving contract.

Assists in promoting boating safety on Long Island. Also assists the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, and Coast Guard Academy introduction programs for youth. Provides support to victims of fires and disasters. Provides blood donation services. Offers a series of courses on First Aid, CPR, Injury Prevention, Swimming, Life Guarding, and more. Courses offered at various sites. Corporate classes also available. Installs smoke alarms and provides in-home emergency planning assistance.

Provides education and support in areas of disease and injury prevention. Areas may include nutrition, dental health in children, STDs, worksite wellness, HIV/AIDS, cancer screening and education, teen pregnancy, family planning, lead poisoning prevention, physical activity, communicable and chronic diseases, rabies control, tobacco use prevention and cessation, and car seat safety.

Specially trained officers from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office are available to attend community forums and event to perform child car seat safety checks. Contact the Community Relations Office to have this program offered at your location.

Offers adults and adolescents (12 years and older) instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation of infants and children. Offered through Family Education Program. Call to register.

Provides training of special education consultants who are then sent to work with teachers, child care workers, health care professionals or others working with children having special needs, for limited periods of time to develop Itinerant services such as instruction, counseling, specialized therapies or other interventions.

Offers high school students a non-credit, state-certified Driver and Traffic Safety Education program. Those who successfully complete the course will receive the MV-285 Student Certificate Completion issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. The MV-285 allows students with a NYS Junior Permit to schedule a road test, receive their senior license at the age of 17 instead of 18, and may be eligible for a rate reduction in their automobile insurance. This program consists of 25.5 hours of classroom instruction and 25.5 hours of behind the wheel training and observation. Effective July 1, this course will be offered in-person, on the Ammerman Campus in Selden.
