CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Education) Presentation | RIVERHEAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Designed to provide a model response program to civilians within their community. The presentation provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. This presentation is designed for any public or private building personnel, to educate them on how to respond in the event of an active shooter situation. This 2-hour program provides practical lessons on how to save lives. This program is available for all congregations, schools, offices, and businesses in the 5 East End towns of Suffolk County. OPERATION SAFE CHILD ID CARDS | RIVERHEAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Officers assist parents with possessing up-to-date photographs with detailed information about their child which can greatly assist law enforcement when responding to a disappearance. These cards contain the child’s full name, date of birth, gender, height, weight, hair color, eye color, and more. The card is made in less than ten minutes and can be carried in the parent’s wallet or pocketbook. Operation Safe Child ID Cards are offered by the Sheriff’s Office free of charge at community events, libraries, and firehouses across Suffolk County. To arrange for Operation Safe Child ID cards to be offered at your community event, please contact the Community Relations Office.

ADAPTIVE DRIVER TRAINING | JAMES HINES ADMINSTRATION CENTER

Offers an Adaptive Driver Training program for individuals exhibiting physical or non-physical disabling conditions. Candidates can be first-time drivers or re-trainees. All prospective students must possess a New York State learner permit or valid driver license. Additionally, students are required to undergo a thorough driving evaluation to determine whether the student possesses the appropriate physical, mental, and emotional abilities necessary for success in driver training. All vehicles are fully equipped with adaptive driving equipment for those with physical limitations. One-on-one training is individualized and designed to teach driving habits and skills necessary to pass a New York State road test. The service is available to all school districts, as well as state and private rehabilitation programs and those with a physician’s referral. This course is designated as the Regional Adaptive Driver Training Program of Suffolk County for the Handicapped by the Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE PROGRAM | MOLLOY UNIVERSITY CONTINUING EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

Offers a 120-hour CDA program. The CDA program represents a national effort to credential qualified caregivers who work with children from birth through age five. The continuing education department offers a CDA program for the three childcare settings: Home visitor personnel; Family child care and Center-based. The CDA competency standards are the core of the program in addition to learning pediatric first aid and the identification and reporting of child abuse/neglect. The program will be directed in the following 8 content areas: Planning safe healthy environment to invite learning; Steps to advance children’s physical and intellectual development; Positive ways to support children’s social and emotional development; Strategies to establish productive relationships with families; Strategies to manage an effective program operation; Maintaining commitment to professionalism; Observing/recording children’s behavior; and Principles of child growth and development. The Child Development Associate is a person who has successfully complete CDA assessment and has been awarded the CDA Credential. S/he is able to meet the specific needs of children and works with parents and other adults to nurture children's physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth in a child development framework. Credentials are not awarded solely for the successful completion of the 120 hour course. CDA candidates are also required to have 480 hours of experience working with children under 5 years of age in a structured child care center within the past 5 years. SIMULATED IMPAIRED DRIVING EXPERIENCE (SIDNE) | PREVENTION COUNCIL OF PUTNAM

Is the newest tool in the fight against drunk driving. It's a battery-powered, remote-controlled vehicle that resembles a go-cart and simulates the experience of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. SIDNE is now being introduced to enable high school students, college students, and parents to experience firsthand the often unimagined impact of driving while under the influence. SIDNE is a prevention initiative utilized and demonstrated in a collaborative effort by NCADD Putnam, Communities That Care Coalition and the Putnam County Youth Bureau, to deliver engaging and hands-on lessons about the misuse and abuse of alcohol and other drugs and the dangers of distracted driving. SIDNE activities include fatal vision goggles, simulated field sobriety test, activities to exhibit weight to alcohol consumption comparison, and activities to exhibit the ease of getting distracted while driving. DRIVER'S EDUCATION | MICHAEL J. GRANT CAMPUS

Offers high school students a non-credit, state-certified Driver and Traffic Safety Education program. Those who successfully complete the course will receive the MV-285 Student Certificate Completion issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. The MV-285 allows students with a NYS Junior Permit to schedule a road test, receive their senior license at the age of 17 instead of 18, and may be eligible for a rate reduction in their automobile insurance. This program consists of 25.5 hours of classroom instruction and 25.5 hours of behind the wheel training and observation. Effective July 1, this course will be offered in-person, on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Please note that XDT100 and XDT200 are corequisites and must be taken together and successfully completed to obtain the MV-285. Childbirth Education - Mercy Hospital of Buffalo

Provides a variety of classes on topics related to childbirth, including the following. Prepared Childbirth: Provides tips to make pregnancy easier, along with facts about labor, delivery, and recovery at home. Discusses care for both mom and baby after leaving the hospital. A tour is included. Lamaze Focus: Geared towards parents who want additional focus on the Lamaze technique for natural child birth. Classes have four sessions and followed by a tour at Sisters. Covers all topics covered in the standard Prepared Childbirth classes. Prepared Cesarean Delivery: Covers what to expect for parents scheduled for a Cesarean Delivery. Covers all topics covered in the standard Prepared Childbirth classes, excluding focus on labor. Also provides discussion of recovery at home, pain control techniques, and questions about surgical delivery. Preparing to Breastfeed: A lactation consultant reviews common questions and concerns regarding the first weeks of breastfeeding. Both parents are welcome. Marvelous Multiples Classes: Intended to add to the childbirth classes for parents expecting more than one new arrival. Covers special concerns and special care of both mom and babies. Class offers more information about what is happening during pregnancy along with tips from moms who have been through pregnancies with multiple babies. Includes a tour of the NICU. Baby Talk: Intended to help reduce the stress of the first few weeks after childbirth. Focuses on newborn care, health concerns to watch for, and challenges faced by all new parents. Includes discussion time and practice time with lifelike dolls. Grandparents Classes: Covers new infant care, safety (especially car seat and sleep safety), supportive care for the new parents, and fun activities to prepare for the arrival of a precious grandchild. Infant and Child CPR/First Aid: Focuses on preparation for emergency situations. Covers how to respond if a child is choking, drowning, injured, or in need of CPR, with a focus on both infant and child age groups. Car Seat Safety: Provides a short safety presentation on car seat basics followed by an appointment for a one-on-one car seat fitting with a certified Child Passenger Safety technician. Parents should bring the car seat they will use so that it can be installed properly before leaving the hospital. The technician will assist with car seat installations for all kids, not just the new baby. Gestational Diabetes: Provides instruction on diabetes self-care and nutrition. Tours are available for all expectant parents. As space is limited, expectant parents should call to inquire at least a month before their due date. High Risk Pregnancies & Deliveries: Covers special concerns related to high risk pregnancies. The first three sessions cover medical care, what to do at home, and what to expect before and after delivery. The fourth session addresses neonatal intensive care and what parents should know about the possibility of their baby visiting the NICU before heading home.
