Sample programs include: Concussion/TBI management for student athlete/parent/coach/school faculty sports safety information sessions; Preventing Falls in Older Adults; Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention; Stepping On, Trauma Talk and Stop the Bleed. Provides educational workshops concerning disaster preparedness for people of all age groups. Provides free smoke alarms for families.

This is a health education and referral program. This is not a home repair or licensed home inspection service.
* Provides a free in-home visual health and safety check-up.
* Develops with the client a plan to reduce hazards and safety concerns identified.
* Initiates follow-up with resources, referrals and free low-cost products (subject to availability) to help residents meet individual home improvement goals.
* Seeks to improve health and safety in homes by:

• Reducing indoor air pollution and asthma hospitalizations
• Prevent injuries
• Prevent residential fires
• Prevent lead poisoning
• Reducing indoor tobacco use
• Controlling pest infestations

Participation is voluntary and the resident is not required to make any fixes.

Educates Nassau and Suffolk County homeowners on the importance of maintaining an energy efficient and healthy home. At no cost to the homeowner, the program arranges for a certified Long Island professional to conduct a comprehensive "Healthy Home Energy Assessment" to identify any efficiency or health and safety issues in the home. This may include water leaks, injury or environmental hazards, pests, and heating, plumbing and electrical deficiencies. Following the assessment, the homeowner will be referred to appropriate resources that are available through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on Long Island.

Health and safety program that is dedicated to improving health outcomes and better quality of life for Niagara County Residents. The program has six focus areas;1. Fire Prevention, 2. Air Quality, 3. Preventing Lead Poisoning, 4. Fall & Accident prevention, 5. Smoking Education & Cessation, and 6. Asthma prevention from environmental triggers. The HNP team is staffed by a Health Educator-Manager, and Health Technicians. Technicians assess homes during a visit, provides recommendations and free products to improve health and wellbeing. Products may include smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, asthma relief products, and cleaning supplies. The HNP is not an enforcement agency. All identifying information gathered during visits will remain confidential.

Public Health Sanitarians inspect for health hazards and advise on preventive measures to maintain a healthy environment. Environmental health services include inspection of residential sites, schools, restaurants and other businesses involved with food, children's camps, swimming pools, beaches, septic systems, hotels/motels, rooming houses, campsites, mobile home parks, day care centers, and tattoo parlors. Provides environmental information, products, and a home safety survey by Health Inspectors/Educators. Home visits include an assessment for indoor air quality, asthma control, carbon monoxide poisoning, fire and burn safety, lead poisoning hazards, unintentional injury, smoking cessation, and housing and property maintenance. Following the home assessment, intervention products and services are provided according to need and interest. Free products include: smoke detectors and batteries, CO detectors, child safety products, cleaning supplies, asthma trigger management supplies, and radon test kits to qualifying families.

Provides public education regarding the links between common environmental exposures and human health. Creates informational projects including developing and distributing printed materials in-school learning programs, organization of public meetings, and maintenance of an educational web site. Grassroots Healthy Lawn Program teaches natural lawn care for professionals and homeowners. The Child Safe School program provides individuals, school staff, and education professionals with information and resources promoting the use of green cleaning products in schools

Offers seminars to educate the community on various issues, such as fire or crime prevention, recycling, housing safety, health care information and more. Also inform residents about current issues or problems through fliers, church bulletins, newspaper and local events.

* Administers 55 poison control centers in the US that provide professional advice by toxicology specialists. All poison centers can be reached by calling the same number.

* Coordinates numerous aspects of patient care and offers a full range of in-home services that include: Skilled nursing Cardiac care Disease and pain management Physical, occupational and speech therapy Wound care Home health aides Memory Care program Low vision program Orthopedic care Medical social worker Fall prevention programming

* Offers community workshops and presentations targeted at adult caregivers and seniors who might be at risk for a fall.

* Provides support for rural providers to improve access to care, enhance coordination of services, increase efficiency of service delivery, and introduce needed community services through the formation and operation of rural health networks.

Provides educational materials and in-service programs for health care professionals and the general public with the aim of educating them on preventing accidental poisonings.

Provides four fall prevention programs: Growing Stronger a strength training exercise program, A Matter of Balance classes that help reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels of older adults, Walk with Ease will help increase physical activity and reduce pain and improve overall health, Tai Chi is an exercise that improves health and wellness through movement control and weight transference. Also offers Home Safety Assessment to identify fall risks in the home.

Offers programs to help sustain agriculture including information and support where possible in managing pests, pollution prevention, waste and water management, animal husbandry including dairy and livestock production, beekeeping, field, grape and vegetable crop production, farm business management, and forest and wildlife management.

Serves as a liaison for and facilitator of emergency response training. Provides emergency response information both during an emergency as well as planning, mitigation and recovery from disasters. Administers various federal and state grants in the areas of emergency response.

Provides a free publication (available in various languages) featuring smart ways to make a home comfortable, safe and a great fit for older adults. 

Provides information and public awareness regarding all aspects of fire and medical safety, via classes or workshops.
