NEW YORK STATE COMMISSION FOR THE BLIND | NEW YORK STATE OFFICE OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES

Administers programs and services to enhance employability, maximize independence, and assist in the development of the capacities and strengths of people who are legally blind. Programs include:

Equipment Loan Fund, which allows individuals to borrow up to $4,000 to purchase adaptive equipment.

Children's services for children who are legally blind, including early intervention rehabilitation, working with and empowering parents, arranging services to supplement educational activities, and ensuring a smooth transition to adult services.

Vocational rehabilitation programs for adults and youth ages 14 to 21 years, which provide a number of services, including assessment, information and referral, casework services, job coaching, orientation and mobility training, independent living skills training, and assistive technology assistance.

Independent living services for individuals who are not eligible for vocational rehabilitation services and who are not receiving services through another NYSCB Program. These services are provided based on individual need and may include orientation and mobility services, rehabilitation teaching, low vision services and devices, social casework, and adaptive equipment.

EVAN LENDING CLOSET | UNITED MINISTRY OF DELHI

TRAID (Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities) Center shows how technology-from simple homemade gadgets to computer systems-can make people more independent. We have items on display for people to try, we offer demonstrations of equipment, and can tell people how to get what they need. STIC also offers short-term loan of equipment and assistive technology including: wheelchairs, TTYs, walkers, tub seats, commodes, portable ramps, and much more. Some items may be given away if we have an excess.

DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND ASSISTIVE DEVICES (TRAID) | SOUTHERN ADIRONDACK INDEPENDENT LIVING

Lends assistive devices and/or durable medical equipment (including hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, shower benches/chairs, walkers, standing frames, crutches, canes, etc.) based upon individual need for 30 days or more. The center also provides assistance with obtaining needed devices and equipment from other sources, as well as training to use the devices and equipment. In addition, the center provides assessment for adaptive computer hardware and software, and training to use specialized computer programs as needed. SAIL provides assistive devices, durable medical equipment (including adaptive car seats, strollers, gait trainers, standing frames, positioning devices, etc.) and developmental toys and games for children with disabilities on a loan basis. The center also provides training concerning the use of adaptive switches, communication devices, and environmental controls for children.
