The Cohoes Family Care MOMS Program is an educational program for pregnant women. Provided are pregnancy tests, assistance in completing Medicaid applications, access to prenatal and primary care, free childbirth and breastfeeding education, along with pregnancy and infant care education Also provided are referrals to community agencies as appropriate, such as WIC or the local Department of Health. Crisis counseling on issues such as domestic violence, child abuse and mental health issues is also provided.

Home visiting nursing program that provides prenatal and postnatal supportive services. MOMS is designed to improve equitable access to quality maternal child health care, increase lactation support for parents choosing to breast feed, and enhance the coordination of care with other community resources. Program services include: Health Screening & Monitoring, Pregnancy Education, Nutrition Screening & Monitoring, Infant Care Education, Lactation Counseling, Postpartum Mental Health Education, Childbirth and Family Planning, Early Childhood Development, Community Resource Referrals, and help with WIC program enrollment (if appropriate) and making an appointment with a participating OBGYN. Staff RN is also a Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) who can answer questions about yourself and your newborn in regard to breast/chest feeding. Provides several safe and nurturing shelters, in various locations, for young women who are pregnant and homeless. Along with housing, parenting and life skills classes, job training and other counseling is provided in order to prepare them to have a better chance of success once they are on their own. Also one home is specifically designed to focus on the needs of homeless, pregnant women with mental illness or drug/alcohol addiction.
Offers a free weekly support group for breastfeeding mothers and their infants led by a certified lactation consultant. Provides information, support and hands-on assistance to ensure breastfeeding success. Topics vary based on group member's interests. Held in an informal, off-site location. Call for more details.
This is a weekly get together for new moms to share information with each other. A lactation consultant is available for questions.
Offers pregnant women low or no cost pre-natal programs covering newborn-infant care, breast feeding, CPR/Tot-saver, pre-natal exercise and Lamaze training. Participants in the Lamaze class have the opportunity, at no charge, for a one time visit by a registered nurse to assist in newborn care.
