John R. Oishei Children's Hospital (OCH)

John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital (OCH) is a regional center for pediatric and women’s health, located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. As one of the only freestanding children's hospitals in New York State, OCH provides comprehensive care to infants, children, teens and young adults up to age 21, along with specialized women’s health services, including prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum support. The hospital features a state-of-the-art labor and delivery unit and is home to a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the highest level of care available for critically ill or premature newborns. With 185 inpatient beds and a rooftop helipad, OCH also houses an ACS-verified Level I Pediatric Trauma Center—one of the few in the region. It is a teaching hospital affiliated with the State University of New York at Buffalo and part of the Kaleida Health system, serving patients from across Western New York and Southern Ontario.

Provides an 18-bed inpatient unit as well as ambulatory and satellite programs tailored to the unique medical and developmental needs of teenagers and young adults. Services include: General Health Care, Eating Disorders Center, Weight Management Center, Atherosclerosis Prevention Center, Adolescent Gynecology, Deaf Health Services, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Services, Behavioral Health Services, HIV Prevention Services and School Based Health Services.

Pediatric specialists, evaluate children with genetically defined, primary immune defects that lead to recurrent serious infection in childhood and adolescents. For these patients, bone marrow transplant or gene therapy, where appropriate, are used for immune reconstitution.

Offers a holistic and family focused approach to patient care with an emphasis on promoting normal physical and emotional growth and development. Goals include slowing the progression of the disease, prevention and treatment of complications and helping the patients integrate the disease and strenuous medical treatments into daily life. Provides a home care program. Parent support groups are available on a as needed basis.

Skin and CAP RAST testing, along with double blind, placebo controlled food challenges, are performed to identify allergy triggers.
