Furthermore, they are involved in training and education, both within the VA and in the community. The new VA suicide prevention initiative has placed more than 150 Suicide Prevention Coordinators nationwide, all of which are licensed mental health professionals.

Services may include: psychiatry, intermediate medicine, extended care, homeless and alcohol/drug abuse programs, cardiac rehabilitation, nuclear medicine, radiation oncology, nursing home and respite care.
* Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) contribute to cost containment by making quality health care affordable and accessible to veterans outside VA's core medical services. CBOCs reduce travel time and shorten waiting times for veterans needing outpatient care. Some of CBOCs services include: primary care, group and individual counseling, laboratory analysis, prescriptions and radiology.
