* Provides public health services that include:

• Rabies Prevention (receive notification of all dog bites in the county and work with the person that was bitten to make sure they get screened for rabies risk and the need for post-exposure prophylaxis).
• Lead Poisoning Prevention (works with families of children at risk for, or with an elevated blood lead level to reduce that child's level). Testing is not provided by public health but a referral is made to the NYS office.
• Immunization Program (provides mandatory and optional vaccines for the county residents)
• Communicable Disease Program (investigates and coordinates with other agencies on reports of State-defined communicable diseases).
• Healthy Families Program (Assists at-risk families with strength-based guidance and support in parenting and other life issues).
• Emergency Preparedness (Promoting and educating the community on being prepared for natural and other disasters).
• Children's Programs including Early Intervention.

Conducts multi-disciplinary evaluations for preschoolers. Provides multi-disciplinary services to the needs of 3- and 4-year-old children with diagnosed developmental delays.

Offers a center-based and home-based pre-school for children with and without disabilities which emphasizes social, emotional, and academic growth in a supportive, safe environment. Also provides early intervention services for children with developmental disabilities and their families including evaluation and services in all areas of development including special education, psychological services, speech, language, occupational and physical therapy, nursing services, and family support and advocacy services. Infants and toddlers from birth to three years of age receive comprehensive evaluations in the family's home. If eligible by diagnosis or documented delay, services are provided in natural environments (home, community/day care facilities) through the Early Intervention Program as authorized by Suffolk County Bureau of Services for Children with Special Needs. Evaluation and services available include special instruction, speech, occupational, physical, vision therapies, social work services, and psychological services.

DBCH provides an Early Intervention program for young children with developmental disabilities or delays. Offers an evaluation and if eligible receives services to enhance the child's growth and development.

Early Intervention evaluates children from birth through 2 years of age for developmental delays. If eligible for services, the Early Intervention program provides speech, occupational, and physical therapy, nutrition, social work and other services as appropriate.

The program is designed to develop and strengthen social and emotional skills through an integration of clinical and educational curriculum, including physical, occupational and speech therapies.

Provides home based/center based program for children from birth to 36 months who have an identified developmental disability, including speech delay, pervasive developmental delay, cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, and physical disabilities. Services includes speech/language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work services, parent/child groups, family/caregiver support groups, parent training, family counseling, and on going service coordination.
