The program is designed for individuals who wish to begin a career in education as well as for individuals presently employed in area school districts who wish to or need to upgrade their professional credentials to meet New York State and/or local district guidelines. United Way of Long Island’s Workforce Development Training Academy provides free hands-on training focused on creating a foundation and pathways to secure careers in the renewable energy industry for Long Islanders. Hands-on training is focused on clear, long-term career path development and complemented by online financial empowerment workshops. Power Up! Wind, Solar & Renewables graduates are proficient in the installation of clean heating and cooling technologies, high-efficiency HVAC, heat pumps, solar panels, and EV Charging. The training is open at no cost to youths, veterans, and others entering the job market.

Trainings are designed for individuals involved in the recovery initiation of others and/or in sustained recovery themselves and want to become a guide and mentor for others seeking, or already living in recovery.* Provides Education and Training for the recovery community and peer professionals on advocacy, stigma reduction, DEI, wellness, peer supervision, trauma informed care, multiple pathways of recovery.

Provides short, non-credit programs focused on helping unemployed, underemployed, and career changing individuals enter manufacturing careers (Welding, CNC/Machining, Industrial Maintenance Technician, BAS, HVAC etc.). Students who enter the programs do not need a high school diploma and the course fees are often entirely or partially covered by grants, scholarships and other funding sources. JCC Career Services will also support these students in their efforts to find a job. At the end of several programs, a workshop is held that leads students through resume building and interview skills. Workforce Development invites local manufacturing companies to interview students on campus at the end of some of the programs (welding, machining and industrial maintenance). Students have access to JCC Career Services for a year after the completion of their program.

NEW’s daytime offering, Blue Collar Prep (BCP), is a seven-week full-time program geared towards giving women a well-rounded introduction to the building trades and hands-on training experience with tools and building materials.

Offering an opportunity for individuals to be Fair Housing Testers. LIHS is a nonprofit fair housing agency with openings for testers. Testers are considered per diem employees rather than employees. However, LIHS will train and pay volunteers Testers a stipend of $17.00 per hour plus travel expenses. Candidates must have the following qualifications: Must attend training session must be reliable must have reliable transportation Willing to work in Nassau & Suffolk Ability to follow instruction, follow through ability to write a report responsibly maintain communication honesty and objectivity and a clean record (no record or fraud convictions).
