Provides jobs to the community's most disenfranchised members, the homeless, and people with a history of incarceration or substance abuse. The bakery provides jobs for anyone who enrolls and demonstrates a willingness to work. There are no background checks or pre-screening requirements, and as a result can reach the community's neediest and provide them with jobs, skills training and comprehensive resources for personal and professional growth.

SPECIAL CAREER EDUCATION | ISLIP CAREER CENTER

Serves students with disabilities from the component school districts. This program provides a self-contained learning environment with modifications as determined by the Committees on Special Education (i.e., 12-1-1 and 8-1-1). The Gary D. Bixhorn Technical Center, the Islip Career Center and Harry B. Ward Technical Center serve high school students who are 15.5 (15 years and 6 months) of age by September 1st until the age of 21. Special Career Education (SCE) creates opportunities for all students by providing them with the technical and academic skills needed to prepare for future employment and a successful path to college or other post-secondary programs. SCE provides technical training to prepare students for a successful career. The structured training gives students the tools needed to be successful in a job after high school and/or further post-secondary education. Each student is encouraged to explore various areas of study and to develop the essential skills to feel competent in entering today's competitive job market, while helping them to learn how to cope with their disabilities in the workplace. Provides individualized services to people with barriers to employment including those eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation services through: - Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) - Adult Career & Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) - Office of Mental Health (OMH) Home & Community Based Services (HCBS) - Adult and Children's - High Fidelity Wraparound Services From assessment to follow-along support, OLV Human Services works with participants to prepare them for employment at all stages of their career path. Vocational services are provided primarily in the community in which the participant resides, and the OLV Human Services office is accessible by public transportation (NFTA Routes 16, 42).

NORTHEAST CAREER PLANNING VOCATIONAL SERVICES | UNITY HOUSE OF TROY

Assists individuals ages 18 years and older who have a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness, with entering the workforce. Provides activities such as searching for employment, assist them with the hiring process, supports the individual during employment, connects with community resources for benefits advisement, intensive job coaching, or obtaining work attire. Staff coordinates employment concerns with clinical providers and employers to provide a continuity of care, and to optimize the probability of success.

Provides individuals with developmental disabilities to a variety of person-centered activities including creative arts, recreation and leisure, independent living and employment preparation. Volunteer opportunities are also available to help participants gain first-hand experience at different organizations throughout Schenectady County including the Regional Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, NYS Museum, and Salvation Army.
