A collaborative effort between the City of Peekskill, Westchester County, and Peekskill School District to provide at-risk youth with subsidized and unsubsidized paid summer work experience, unpaid community service experience, educational and social skills. Focuses on the goal of placing youth in unsubsidized employment while achieving academic success.

Supported employment assists individuals to secure competitive employment in jobs best suited to their abilities and preferences. Ongoing staff and informal supports are available to help with job retention. Supported employment may include ACCESS –VR funded intensive services consisting of job development, placement, situational assessment, job coaching, and OMH-funded extended services.

Offers paid summer internship in Retail Advertising you will be responsible for selling and servicing new and existing accounts within specific sales territories. Ideally you will possess innovative problem solving skills, strong organizational/time management skills and excellent interpersonal/presentation skills. You must have a clean/valid NYS driver's license with a registered vehicle for use throughout the internship. Call for further information.

Provides opportunities for individuals to experience personal growth, manage conflicts between family and employment demands, improve job skills, expand problem solving abilities, master budgeting and time management.

Employs 10 high school students as interns for six weeks during the summer in local government departments, and New Rochelle funded community-based agencies and programs.

Encourages youth to establish a good work ethic through employment and workshops. Promotes punctuality, teamwork, how to follow rules and regulations, as well as respect of self, co-workers and supervisors. At- risk youth are selected between the ages of 14-18. Interviews are held in May and orientation in June. Employment is seven weeks, Monday-Friday. Worksites are established within the community at local churches, schools, agencies, parks and beaches. Workshops are given throughout the program in areas such as Banking, Job Attitudes, Career Goals, Job Interviewing and Resume Writing. Training in practical skills for today's workforce providing support in finding hands-on career programs, training to build confidence and professionalism in interviews, resume writing, career coaching, apprenticeship and internships, and monthly classes for personal and professional growth.

New York State Commission for the Blind's (NYSCB) Business Enterprise Program (BEP) offers opportunities for individuals who are blind to gain the training and skills necessary to manage one of several vending facilities located in Federal and state office buildings throughout the state. After completing an intensive training program, BEP managers become proficient in all aspects of retail management including purchasing products, controlling inventory, marketing products, maintaining good customer relations, and keeping accurate records.

Offers summer employment opportunities for youth. They are able to work up to ten weeks throughout the summer, for 30 hours per week and earn minimum wage.

Offers independent and working skills training in a variety of communications, household, personal, technology and related areas. Orientation and mobility training may include how to move about in a specific environment such as a home, school or work place. It usually involves teaching proper techniques for safe and effective travel with a long (white) cane. It also includes training on how to be aware of clues from the environment and knowing your location. Provides an open resource room for individuals to test and purchase accessible computer technology as well as additional low vision and mobility aids. Also offers Braille instruction, early intervention services for children and specialty services for older individuals.

A six week summer internship program that includes job placement, weekly youth development, self-sufficiency skill building, and a stipend upon successful completion of the program.

Provides access to job database individuals with visual impairments or other disabilities, offers counseling for displaced homemakers, disabled individuals, or others in transition or "beginning again" situations. Also services include basic skills training and remediation, GED preparation, youth competency, work experience, occupational/vocational training, on-the-job training and customized training for eligible employers. Computer classes are available from basic application, and Quickbooks.

Provides youth and adults with employment and training oriented programs such as job readiness skills, skill building, pre-employment skills, employment referrals, job placement, post-employment services, entrepreneurial development and career directed training.

This program helps eligible, disadvantaged youth with employment, and earn up to $900 to cover expenses if they get training from an authorized NY Youth Works provider. Also this program encourages businesses to hire disadvantaged adolescents and young adults.

Career Options provides job readiness, skill assessment, diagnostic vocational evaluation, résumé development, career counseling, job development, on the job training, and follow up services. The Vocational Centers offer job opportunities for individuals to develop and improve the skills necessary to meet their goals for employment. The Center focuses on soft skills development such as acceptance of supervision, following directions, attention to task, co-worker relationships, job completion and time management.

Offers a ten week summer course for college students in the field of journalism. A letter from the college they are attending is required along with students transcript. Employment Services model utilizes an employment developer to assist with job placement and a job-coach who provides support to the people in the form of job-site training, on-going assessment and follow-along for as long as necessary in order for the people to maintain employment.
