New York State Commission for the Blind's (NYSCB) Business Enterprise Program (BEP) offers opportunities for individuals who are blind to gain the training and skills necessary to manage one of several vending facilities located in Federal and state office buildings throughout the state. After completing an intensive training program, BEP managers become proficient in all aspects of retail management including purchasing products, controlling inventory, marketing products, maintaining good customer relations, and keeping accurate records.

Staff provide on or off-site job coaching and support to ensure that once employed, a person can learn the job duties, feel comfortable in the work environment, and have supportive relationships with supervisors and co-workers. When the person and the employer feel the employment situation is stable, an employment specialist can provide ongoing support.
