NASSAU DAY TRAINING PROGRAM | ZUCKER HILLSIDE HOSPITAL/NORTHWELL HEALTH

The Nassau Day Training Program provides both vocational and community integration services and serves as a job placement center for special needs populations in Nassau County. Our program provides outreach and/or mentorship to those with severe persistent mental illness and co- occurring disorders that may also include co-morbid health issues. The overall mission is to assist those in our program to enter the workplace as quickly as possible. We work with our program members to achieve increased community integration and independent functioning to prepare them for work. During the course of the program they may experience different levels of integration and independent functioning: developing work readiness, volunteer placement or actual competitive employment. In addition we offer Adult Career and Continuing Education Services Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) sponsored services such as Diagnostic Vocational Evaluations, Supported Employment Services and Office Skills Training and Placement.

Provides employment related services to Suffolk County Youth. Offers youth career counseling, resume preparation, computer labs, job listings, vocational training, video library, phones/fax for job search and career exploration via Career Zone and Choices, as well as access to the Community Resource Database of Long Island. Offers the In-School Youth Experience Program; a federally funded, school-based program for economically disadvantaged and/or at risk youth age 14-21. In close cooperation with several Suffolk County school districts, the program promotes good work habits and workplace skills aimed toward a future of success in the workforce. Also offers the Out-of-School Youth Work Experience Program; a federally funded program for economically disadvantaged youth aged 16-24 who are high school dropouts wanting to complete their high school education or graduates who are seeking to develop good work habits and employment skills in preparation for successful competition in the labor market and full-time employment. This service is for adults with disabilities including: standardized assessment, specialized assessment, work site evaluation, community based assessments, work readiness. Prevocational services are offered through community pre-vocational services for the IDD, the Jawonio Thrift Shop at our Yonkers location and Connections/Pre-Employment Program for the behavioral health challenged in our Yonkers locations. Focuses on creating asset development opportunities for both residents and entrepreneurs. Assists individuals in growing and investing in their communities by providing lending capital, training, consulting, technical assistance, seminars, workshops, and low-cost business rental space to new and existing businesses that would otherwise lack access to these services. Assists area residents in developing asset based thinking by providing financial literacy training, basic budgeting, and home appliance loans to combat predatory lenders. Loan programs and Cottage Industry Assistance Program target low to moderate income existing and prospective individuals. Chautauqua Microenterprise Loan Fund and the Women and Minority Microenterprise Loan Fund Programs help small businesses by providing small business start up and expansion loans. The small business incubator offers small businesses an opportunity to grow and stabilize with subsidies around rent, business services, and technical assistance. Program site serves as a Warming Center during times of excessive cold and as a Cooling Center during times of excessive heat. Workforce Development / Vocational Programs - VIA

Offers short term career training programs focusing on employment skills and placement services for visually impaired individuals. Both online and in-house courses are available which focus on computer skills, customer service skills, telecommunications, and work readiness. Emphasis is placed on computer skills including Microsoft Office, Assistive Technology, and hands on experiential learning. Also provides employment services including resume development, interviewing skills training, career counseling, and job search/placement support. Program is open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4pm in-house; specific course hours will vary, or be available as online offerings.
