LEARNING WEB, YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAM | LEARNING WEB

Youth Outreach, a program within The Learning Web, guides and assists homeless and transient young people age 16-24 in moving from dependence to self-sufficiency Using the vehicles of housing, employment, education, parenting, home keeping, managing finances, skill-building and all the components of independent living, we assist young people transitioning from instability to stability. Benefiting from experiential learning, intensive case management, life skills training, and a supported housing program, youth gain the skills to live successful and economically self-sufficient adult lives.A central tool utilized to help homeless youth is the transitional living supported housing (Housing Scholarship Program [HSP]) The Housing Scholarship Program provides rent and utility subsidies to 15 homeless youth ages 16-24, living in 15 scattered site apartments. Supportive services are offered for 12 to 18 months to assist households to maintain stable housing and become self-sufficient. The apartments have a basic set of furniture, linens, safety items, cleaning tools, and start-up groceries supplies to maintain a clean, safe home. Residents can shift their energies from day to day subsistence to strengthening independent living, education and employment skills, leading to self-sufficiency and stability.
