SUFFOLK COUNTY SPCA | SUFFOLK COUNTY OFFICES - WILLIAM J. LINDSAY COUNTY COMPLEX

Conducts spay/neuter clinics, provides educational programs, and supports senior citizens with the maintenance of their pets. In addition, the agency provides spay/neuter services to tens of thousands of feral animals, while assisting the residents of Suffolk County by providing for the health and safety of their pets. Our peace officers are both active and retired law enforcement personnel who enforce the New York State Agriculture and Market Law with regard to the prevention of mistreatment and cruelty to animals. The Suffolk County SPCA directly supports the efforts of the various Federal, State and Municipal K-9 rescue services in the five state area. Call for detailed information on services offered.

RABIES CLINICS | COLUMBIA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

Rabies Immunization Clinics sponsored by CCDOH for pet dogs, cats and ferrets are for individual or family pet owners. The annual schedule of clinics includes several locations in the county, including town halls, as well as on the agency website. There is no charge for vaccination services for county residents, although donations are accepted. Breeders must use their own veterinarian for rabies vaccinations and are not eligible for vaccinations through the free clinics. Dogs must be leashed and cats and ferrets must be enclosed in an appropriate pet carrier.

RABIES CONTROL PROGRAM | ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Offers free rabies vaccination clinics for owners of dogs, ferrets, and cats. Owners are required to keep pets on a leash or in a carrier and bring their pet's past rabies shot records.

Provides post- exposure treatment to humans when exposure occurs. Confinement of domesticated cats, dogs, ferrets, and livestock is conducted as needed to reduce the spread of rabies.

NYS Public Health Law requires that all puppies and kittens get their first rabies shot at 3 months of age. They also need to get a booster shot at 1 year old, and again every three years.

Provides free rabies vaccinations for cats, dogs, and ferrets that come with certificates that are good for one year.

2023 Dates Include:
March 28th, May 23rd, June 27th, August 22nd, and September 5th.

Through enforcement, education, and other disease prevention activities, is responsible for the following health programs: Rabies Prevention: Conducts investigations of domestic animal bites and scratches and wildlife encounters between people and/or their pets. Free Rabies Vaccination Clinics for dogs, cats, and ferrets. Rodent Control: Responds to complaints and service requests regarding rodent infestations; baiting available for eligible properties. Offers regularly scheduled rabies clinics throughout the county for cats, dogs and ferrets. Also provides information about rabies and animal bites/exposures. Clinics are provided in cooperation from the Chemung County SPCA and Health Department. Takes and responds to reports of rabid animals and bites. If bitten, scratched or have had contact with the saliva of an animal that is believed rabid, wash the wound immediately and contact a health care provider. If treatment is recommended, call immediately to determine where treatment should be received. If there is any chance of exposure to a bat through an inapparent bite, for example, a bat had direct contact with someone, or was in a room with a sleeping individual call immediately to discuss the situation.
