Pride and Joy Families is dedicated to helping lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people in Upstate New York achieve their goals of building and sustaining healthy families. Resources available to LGBTQ adults looking to build either traditional or chosen families, LGBTQ youth, and parents of LGBTQ youth. Offerrs LGBTQ cultural competency trainings to healthcare and human service providers in Central New York.

* Provides post-adoption and family support services to adoptive families or families who have been granted legal guardianship of a child. Includes: Information and assistance with referral to services, including 24/7 crisis management Individual advocacy and support Monthly support groups and family-focused social/recreational programs Parent education groups, trauma-informed trainings, and family-oriented workshops Provided in community locations including libraries, community recreation centers, and other family-friendly sites Adoption competency training for parents and professionals Will meet with families in the community, in their homes, and at Hillside locations

Provides for all aspects of adoption process: preparing children for adoption; selection and placement in appropriate adoptive homes; recruitment and certification of adoptive parents.

Services include free self-administered pregnancy tests; referrals for a free onsite ultrasound confirmation (if onsite test is positive); pregnancy options consultations including abortion information, education, and resources; pregnancy and parenting classes, material aid, and more

* Provides services for pregnant women and pregnant teens. Assists with connection to community services. WIC, baby clothes and items, prenatal care. * Offers supportive counseling regarding crisis pregnancy issues including unplanned pregnancy and adoption.

Provides support and assistance to families who have guardianship or adopted a child through trauma-informed care including referrals, support groups, case management, and training opportunities.

Provides confidential pregnancy option counseling and support before, during, and after birth; referrals for medical, financial, and emotional assistance; identifying and helping select adoptive parents, arranging legally approved payments of pregnancy related expenses. Confidential referral and counseling to adopted child at any age; referral and assistance search for birth parents when appropriate. Confidential counseling, education, and support to adoptive parents; pre-placement home study; assistance in advertising for, networking, and locating birth parents.

Represents the families' viewpoint and works to improve and expand the services available to children and families. By fostering communication and collaboration between families, agencies and concerned citizens, seeks to ensure the stability, well-being and permanency of all children touched by the child welfare system. Offers a statewide free Helpline designed specifically to assist foster, adoptive and kinship families, related professionals and those wanting to foster or become parents. Also supports and coordinates volunteer and agency-led parent support groups for foster, adoptive and kinship parents throughout the United States. Offers support to foster and kinship families including the Family Allegation Support Team, Family Court Education and Support, Ombudsmen and more post adoption support services. The Coalition advocacy focuses on issues that need system-wide attention through legislative and administrative advocacy.

Offers guidance and assistance throughout the process of adoption of children from the Russian Federation and from Romania. Services include group and individual orientation meetings, and assistance in preparation of documentation for State of New York, the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, and the foreign government adoption authorities. Parental support groups are available.
