Provides mental health and psychiatric medication management services for children, adolescents, and adults provided by NYS licensed therapists. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners are available for consultation and medication management for clients enrolled in therapy. Therapists specialize in providing counseling for people experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, sexual abuse, adjustment issues, family conflict, school problems, issues related to divorce, adoption, grief and loss, LGBTQ+ issues, and other mental health diagnoses. Therapists are trained in evidence-based interventions, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Mental health services are also provided for adults and children who have a mental health disorder as a primary diagnosis and who may have a concurrent substance abuse disorder which is stabilized or in early remission. Collaborates with established OASAS licensed treatment providers to ensure that the mental health treatment needs of recovering substance abuse clients are met, to provide support for the clients' recovery process, and to minimize symptoms and the potential for psychiatric decompensation, psychiatric hospitalization, or relapse of substance abuse. Provides in-office and telehealth appointments--when clinically appropriate. All initial appointments must be completed in person.

A free support, information and educational program for adoptive families and relative caregivers who have custody or guardianship of children. AGAPE is a counseling service which offers education, confidential assessment, support and referral and brief counseling for adoptive and guardianship families and professionals who work with guardianship families.

Work with adoptive, guardianship and custodial families and children residing in Duchess, Orange, and Westchester Counties support services related to parenting education and youth behavioral issues. Having a history in foster care is not required, and services are provided free.

Recruits, certifies and trains prospective foster parents in order to provide homes for children who are temporarily removed from their birth families. Works with birth parents, children and foster parents with the goal of reunification. Works with group homes and residential treatment centers for children who need a higher level of structure. Provides ongoing supportive services to foster families. The Adoption Unit works with children who cannot be reunited with birth parents to seek adoption by their present foster parents or placement in a suitable alternative adoptive home. Provides training to individuals interested in applying for certification as foster and adoptive parents to prepare to either adopt or foster children that are in the custody of the Commissioner. Places and monitors children that have been placed outside the birth family in licensed foster care homes. Responsible for strengthening and preserving families and ensuring the protection and permanency for children. Placement of children into foster homes occurs in situations of neglect and/or abuse or if the child has been adjucated as a Juvenile Delinquent (JD). Placement only occurs when no other alternatives are possible. The Children and Family Services (FS) collaborates with all DSS divisions, community and state agencies to ensure that children are safe and that families are independent.
