Also offers referrals, information for professionals along with information on a variety of topics including infertility and family planning.

Assists in finding children an adoptive or foster home placement. Also works with families who want to adopt or become foster parents.

Offers guidance and assistance throughout the process of adoption of children from the Russian Federation and from Romania. Services include group and individual orientation meetings, and assistance in preparation of documentation for State of New York, the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, and the foreign government adoption authorities. Parental support groups are available.

The Community Based Services encompasses Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan and Ulster counties in New York and can include Care Management, Adoption Recruitment, Children and Family Treatment and Support Services and Home, and Community Based Services.

Provides information and referral on adoption, foster care, and post-adoption services. Connects prospective parents to local social service agencies.

Provides emotional support to pregnant women, mothers and families in time of crisis, or are struggling with becoming a parent or other parenting issues. Offers home pregnancy kits, medical and financial referrals, maternity and baby clothes, transportation, and a place to stay and friendship.

Operates national adoption agency devoted to recruiting, training, and certifying families for youth 7-17 years old, as well as special needs youth who need permanent families. Arranges for placement of children homes who are legally free for adoption and are in the guardianship of the Commissioner of Social Services in appropriate adoptive homes. Promotes healthy sexuality and reproductive choices by providing most pregnancy related services including abortion referrals, education and counseling, free pregnancy testing, family planning counseling and emergency contraception.

Provides support and guidance for people who have adopted a child, or would like to adopt. Places and monitors children who are in need of alternative living arrangements with private family homes that are licensed to provide foster care. Offers training for families who wish to offer foster care services in their homes.

Provides individualized support, adoption information and referral resources to individuals thinking about placing their own child up for adoption.

Provides training to individuals interested in applying for certification as foster and adoptive parents to prepare to either adopt or foster children that are in the custody of the Commissioner. Places and monitors children that have been placed outside the birth family in licensed foster care homes. Responsible for strengthening and preserving families and ensuring the protection and permanency for children. Placement of children into foster homes occurs in situations of neglect and/or abuse or if the child has been adjucated as a Juvenile Delinquent (JD). Placement only occurs when no other alternatives are possible. The Children and Family Services (FS) collaborates with all DSS divisions, community and state agencies to ensure that children are safe and that families are independent.
